I get it. There’s social friction in that kind of altercation, but fear of that social friction is a contributing factor for the current state of things.
Sure, you can’t walk out on your job to start protesting in the streets because for all practical intents and purposes everyone is a single paycheque away from financial ruin, but Jesus Christ people, you can stand up to the batty woman in your local parish telling you that trans people are grooming children.
Yes, there are social consequences, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere, right? Are you seriously going to tell me that quiet acquiescence is preferable to ostracism from a sexist/racist/homophobic/etc social circle?
There are countless tiny opportunities to stand up and none of them are easy, but we’re long past the point where they’re necessary.
That would make more sense if it were church members protesting against the policies of their own church.

I like that he weaved the whip together himself… I just picture him calmly sitting there, literally making a whip, while people are all like, “What the fuck are you doing, Jesus??” and, saying nothing, he just quietly continues… Until the whip is complete and it’s time to kick some money-changer ass.
Jesus comes across as kind of mean to his disciples at times. It’s less obvious in some of the other gospels, but in Mark, which is a lot shorter and contains a lot fewer sermons, the dialogue with the disciples really stands out and Jesus often admonishes them for pretty understandable things. Jesus isn’t really portrayed by the gospels as being “divinely chill” so much as having infinite wisdom and little patience for people who are wrong.
I like to imagine Jesus as a Saw Gerrera type.

Mark is also (believed to be) the earliest gospel, so the ways it varies from the others is pretty interesting. Particularly against John which is the (relatively) newest.
There was also the story where as a kid he was studying plants and got annoyed with the neighbour kid who was trying to play with him. He killed the neighbour kid and returned to his plants.

I agree with the sentiment, but the word “protestieren” signified “to attest” and not “to protest” (but as a Protestant myself, I do believe that protests have a place within Church, go my American sisters and brothers!).
As a Protestant (at least nominally) myself I feel like the current German Protestant church is pretty well positioned in their believes.
But to be clear, espescially the German protestant church has been very off the moral path when it came to past fascists as well as the stance during WW1.
American Protestants are generally very much the same kind of “believers” as the ones during WW2 - very much unlike Bonhöffers Protestant ideas. And it’s nothing surprising, most of them left Europe with the religious foundation ofnthe 18th and 19th century
both protest and protestant come from the same root word. and, I would agree that they do “mean” the same thing… to declare publicly or testify.
