In a rare defeat, three House Republicans bucked their leaders to block legislation that would have restricted Congressā ability to strike down Trumpās tariffs.
With the threat of additional tariffs looming over foreign countries ā and the 2026 midterms ā House GOP leaders tried to adopt legislation Tuesday night that would prevent any lawmaker from forcing a vote on Donald Trumpās tariffs until August.
That effort failed, however, 214-217, after three Republicans joined all Democrats to defeat the legislation.
Tucked into a rule setting up floor consideration for a bill on U.S. energy security was language that would have prevented House lawmakers from challenging Trumpās tariffs until July 31. The language stipulates that certain days wonāt āconstitute a calendar dayā for the purpose of terminating national emergencies ā the authority Trump has used to impose the tariffs.

Itās about fucking time
Donāt fall for the headline bait. It was a 3 vote margin. Republicans are almost all willing to give up their power to Trump.
