The somewhat sexual theme of the comic may have caused the high amount of downvotes.

Marking this as nsfw would probably help alleviate that, seeing as this is a general comic strips community.

Should we censor sex from all the communities?

Should we censor it from Lemmy?

I am asking because that is what you are suggesting.

Oh wow you censor it to all the people that hide NSFW!!! Dude this platform doesn’t have an algorithm, unless someone hides NSFW they will see the post, and if they do hide NSFW, maybe it’s because they don’t want to see it?

No, it just means people have to actively make a single click to disable the blur.

Beep has some really fucked up opinions. Between this and removing artist signatures, they’ve got to just be a troll.

Except people can configure if they want NSFW posts blurred or not. You can set it to not if you like.

Okay? That is completely separate to the fact it is still censorship. This image has nothing that is deserving of being censored to where the individual must go through hoops to avoid said censorship.

                  This image isn’t NSFW.

It’s a sexual comic whose entire subject is basically “horny alien wants to fuck”

Marking it NSFW isn’t “censorship” it’s just a warning… What do you actually think censorship means?

Yes it is. Sexual content doesn’t fly in most professional offices and people get reported to HR for less.

“Not Safe for Work” people want to browse at work, and could get fired for having this comic scroll past.

The fact people could get fired for this is total bullshit. But it is what it is. Tagging gives people options.

This isn’t about judgement, it’s about making spaces for people to enjoy without risking their jobs.

Your definition of censorship is off then. Censorship would mean the content is not accessible at all. I.e. bars above genitals in Japanese hentai.

Gonna say that your definition is off. Censorship isn’t about completely blocking access but restricting that access, either permanently or through making one jump through hoops for that access.

I really appreciate all your efforts to bring content to the community!

Tagging gives people who could get fired the option to have the content blurred until they click it.

We try not to be judgemental assholes here, but plenty of our bosses are judgemental assholes.

That’s why the tag is “Not Safe for Work”.

It is more generous to err on the side of caution.

It also result in more reach, because the other option available to folks with shitty bosses is just to block users and instances that don’t tag things.

I.e. I’ve blocked everything here with the word “moe” because holy shit those folks have no fucking clue how to tag anything.

No, it’s not. NSFW is shown by default unless the individual user chooses to switch off showing NSFW content on their account.

Is posting something to a more fitting, but quieter community censoring? No. Same effect as far as visibility goes.

What do you have against allowing people to control what they’re exposed to?
