Tight hip flexors can also cause back pain. There is a group of muscles that run from the inside of your hip joint to your spine. They’re called the iliopsoas muscles. They’re basically impossible to reach with regular massage, because they’re fully surrounded by your pelvis. And when those muscles are too tight, it causes lower back pain.
If you get lower back pain from sitting too long, or from laying on your back for too long, you may have tight iliopsoas muscles. There are technically ways to reach them for manual massage, but they’re not easy nor comfortable, (and they basically require a physician to do safely.)
