I would guess we as outsiders think it’s worse than it is, hearing only the bad stuff. We’re not hearing about great new sales at bed bath and beyond or whatever, we’re only hearing about the heavy handed deportations and human rights violations. Which is obviously bad but its easy to confuse “probably not as bad as it sounds” with “probably not actually that bad”.

It’s expensive being poor. I used to get charged £15 if I didn’t have the funds because I wasn’t allowed an overdraft. Being unable to pay £5 left me with £-8 frequently. Because apparently I was allowed an overdraft if they did it to me.

I’m constantly amazed that people are still fighting this fight in the world. Here in the UK I’m getting fed up of regular pride marches because I’m pretty sure “they won” like the fight should be over. Apart from a handful of bigots but there’s no stopping that.
