Nice hope some Foss F-droid type app options pop up. I love it on Android since it’s where I can go to find a simple app that I know won’t have ads or IAP or subscriptions.

I’m saying those claims you make come across without much merit, and sounds more like Epic talking points that’s not selling me on using Epic on iOS to buy apps.

Even when it comes to side loading it’s more emulation and hope for a Foss store like F-droid showing up on iOS which itself is very niche. Other than Fortnite I’m not really seeing much incentive to spend money over Apple store.

And this is Apple we are talking about. A consumer base that is used to spending more, so if I’m spending money on apps currently Apple gives me more confidence in the purchase with it being the Apple hardware and OS. And why wouldn’t I take into account Epic’s behavior when it comes to the PC?

If you are going to be trying to prop up Epic as some savior with talking points like sticking it to Apple for being anti competitive why wouldn’t I take into account Epic’s anti competitive behavior themselves when it comes to if this is a store I should spend money on or look at alternatives. I’m not just going to throw money at a company just for the sake of it being an alternative if I as a consumer who is spending money doesn’t see a benefit to doing so.

Those sound more like selling points to devs than consumers.

I haven’t really seen those things when it comes to the epic store on PC. So consider me skeptical with them seeming more like an aspiring Walmart than some altruistic alternative.

I remember Microsoft did similar things when they launched the Windows Phone with no other selling point due to a late entry.

Better question is why should someone spend money on the Epic app store over Apple. Because the dev cut is a dev selling point not a consumer one.

And what is the longevity of the store with their other venture with the epic launcher not turning a profit and only being propped up by Fortnite.

Is there reason to have more faith in Epic app support over Apple app support?

I was surprised how quickly it filled up without me even thinking about it that I ended up disabling it. I just wish syncthing equivalents were better supported, since my Android, Microsoft, Steam Deck, and MacOS sync files without me having to really think about it.

But, iOS and iPadOS due to file access restrictions don’t work well with it, so it’s like they try to push you into iCloud by making everything annoying when it comes to files sync even with just the base iCloud. Good thing though is I just use an iPad now, which I use more as a media consumption device. No need to deal with iPhone annoyances, which would be much more important in trying to sync and transfer files as a multi platform user.

Kids shouldn’t learn to read. They should stick to audio books.

I thank getting into pcgaming for pushing me towards tech literacy. With how simplified tech has gotten and most usage being phones it’s not surprising so many are more clueless than boomers who were at least forced to use PCs in an office setting.

Yeah, what companies want is all jobs to be exploitable like entry level jobs. That’s kind of what’s happening now with stuff like Uber where companies get away with paying their employees as little as possible and few benefits.

Protecting and providing incentive to hire for the long term seems like better thing in the long run over many crappy low paying jobs.

I’ve been happy with F-droid on Android, since it’s open source apps with no subscriptions or ads. Very nice compared to the play store and Apple store, which seems like is either filled with ads or pushing subscriptions.

I hope to make use of this on iOS for YouTube. Will be nice having that the YouTube site in it’s own separate “app” instead of having to keep closing tabs.

I don’t see a problem with epic having their own store on PC. Steam is also an “unwanted unofficial store” on Windows and Mac. I’m glad that third party stores are able to thrive on Windows, since it is what allowed for stores like Steam or GOG to even exist due to Microsoft not strictly controlling who has the ability to distribute software on their OS.

Are you really trying to use Epic showing up to compete with Steam as though it is a negative when Steam is a store that is thriving on Windows OS that they don’t even have control over? Even their Steamos doesn’t prevent people from installing competing launchers. Steam is the complete opposite of who you should be using if you are trying to argue against the existence of Apple App store alternatives on iPhone.

It’s objectively a better experience for me on Android, since it provides an easy source to find foss apps without ads or mtx. Saying opening up is bad would be like saying stuff like libreoffice, handbreak, and blender are bad because they can be retrieved outside official stores on desktop OS.

I’m glad that I’m able to retrieve programs that aren’t on the Apple store on MacOS like BetterDisplay and Rectangle to improve my MacOS experience over being locked to only the Apple store offerings. Why would I see the same freedom as bad on a phone when I don’t expect or want babysitting.

I want the ability to side load. I doubt epic would end up coming preloaded on iphones. I just want to see a f-droid type Foss app repository on iOS.

Epic is on the side that will result in a feature I actually want, so they have more support for once.
