And that’s a term we haven’t applied but can apply now to technically good art following the common trends at the time, yet lacking something interesting to it, e.g. numerous portraits, template studies et cetera

okay, i remember reading some copypasta at some time or other specifically going over the idea of art as a tax write off with multiple parties and levels of the whole thing involved, does anyone remember what i’m talking about? that’s obviously the insider art.

    I’d think funding is important…

If you’re getting paid to do it, commissioned directly, or funded by a patron; you’re an insider.

If you’re doing it without promise of pay, and just hoping to sell it afterwards (or not) you’re an outsider.

Put another way, professional / tradesperson vs amateur.

Well, the term “outsider art” refers to people disconnected from the art scene, artistic education or art circuits. People that produce output that may be considered artistic but often for other reasons than to produce art, like channeling and manifesting mental or emotional turmoil or trauma. This is also why it is problematic to display works by “outside artists” in art contexts because they are not necessarily produced to be seen, analysed out judged by anybody.

So yes, “insider art” is really all art and crafts that work within a tradition, any sort of context, by people that are aware of their activities as artists, regardless they are professionals or hobbyists.

I’m not sure what you’re going for here or if it is just a playful game with words.

In music this tracks. There is the meta, the stadium shows and radio plays. Some good but I can’t tell how they are any better than other bands, some worse in some hard to define way, I think maybe in appealing to so many people, while it must have some quality, it also has to lack some quality though? Art shouldn’t be able to please everyone, I guess. If I can’t hate it while someone else loves it, is it art?
