Do we value this comment, and their selective enforcement of what gets removed by a moderator?
I checked out the linked post and the community rules for UO. One of the rules is “Defend your position” and you didn’t do that. Like, at all. You just threw out a blanket statement in a rage-bait way (which can also be seen as trolling).
To borrow a phrase from another community (where this post probably belongs rather than in General Discussion): YDI.
PS: I checked the modlog. It was a 3 day ban - a slap on the wrist. Get over it.
PPS: Looking at the modlog for that post to see what comments of yours were removed, one thing became very clear: You are very much NOT the victim here. The post wasn’t why you were banned. In fact, the post is still up, so clearly that wasn’t the problem. It was 100% your attitude and completely abominable behavior in the comment section.
Frankly, a 3 day ban is generous from the mods. If I was a mod and you pulled that in one of my communities, you’d have been shown the door permanently.

I should just be banned this shit is useless anyway.
Someone is putting a gun to your head? Just close the laptop bro
you were not drafted into lemmy.world
I saw your post, and that comment. While I don’t agree with your opinion, I do understand where you’re coming from.
I legitimately laughed at their comment. So off the wall to say you’re at least as bad as (if not worse than) actual religious fascists, and people who tell gay people that they’re going to hell.
Calling what you said abhorrent and pathetic is a huge overreaction. There are a few users on Lemmy that either genuinely flip out at the smallest provocation or have no nuance to the way they communicate, and it makes me laugh every time.
I don’t think your post should have been removed. I don’t think their comment should be removed either. Your post was innocuous, a little bit hyperbolic, and at least offered the opportunity for people to reflect on themselves and their convictions. Their comment was mental, but very funny.
My point is, why was my shit removed, but that wasn’t? There’s clearly a selective bias on the part of the human moderator who made that decision.
Sure I get it but this is quite petty. I see in another thread you’ve called this discrimination which now makes me realise we all should take a little break and go for a walk outside.
Yeah it’s weird how hard they went, especially given the community they were on
Here’s a good visual of the discrimination
If you’re gonna pretend to be the victim here, at least show people what you said.

I’m exposing the inconsistency of the shit moderation.

Lmao, the pic of what you actually said is hilarious. You earned your ban by being a dick, not by having an unpopular opinion. As a fellow dick, I’m giving you an unvarnished opinion.
Unpopular opinions good! Vitriol with no substance bad!
How would you, my fellow dick, respond to someone telling you “Get your head out of your asshole”? Smile and say okay? 😂
I would have gone way harder on very specific ad hominems based on my perception of the other person. Maybe “enjoy that PB&J your mom made you”
No what about “I’m enjoying the PB&J your mom made for you while fucking her”
Lmao, too hard!
I know its called unpopularopinion but it sounds like you made the post solely to judge people then fight with everyone in the comments with a holier-than-thou attitude. That comment is rude and he should be banned too, but you weren’t innocently banned just for having an unpopular opinion. Also you were temp banned for 3 days so maybe chill out.
As always with the ‘I was banned for no reason’ posts, zero self awareness from OP
Even worse, they lead with insults, not with an unpopular opinion.
Then continued to insult yet other people (“Christo fascists”) in ignorance no less.
I never said I was innocent, my question was “Do we value this comment, and their selective enforcement of what gets removed by a moderator?”
You literally said that you were banned for giving an unpopular opinion, which was false.
If your post was that others were not banned, (not just the expanded text, the post itself) that would be different.
You could make a new post about the hypocrisy, but this ain’t it.
Looks to me like it was removed for just being rage bait and insulting a bunch of people.
Go outside.
You’re making things worse.
You should consider posting at [email protected].
Make sure to include the thread and the modlog so people can see the whole context.
Personally I think you were very rude and got what you deserved but other commenters that did the same went unpunished which makes it a bit unfair.
that’s like the lemmy mod MO.
rules for thee but none for me(and my buddies).
I have never had problems with mods applying the rules to my comments or posts.
I DO have a problem when they selectively apply the rules and even outright ban you for reporting content that breaks the same rules you were silenced over.
this is why I want a platform that removes mod power to censor.
this is why I want a platform that removes mod power to censor.
What examples of this platform exist now? Even 4chan censors illegal material (eventually)
there are none because it’s counter to existing social media platform control and monetization.
you can read more from my comments on another post.

to summary, I believe that a community must self regulate and mods should be a mechanism for when that process fails. they would get restorative powers instead of destructive. system owners would be responsible for content moderation based on reporting for illegal content. users are silenced instead of banning.
Ok, so something like slashdot’s old metamoderation? But even then they still had active moderators
Or perhaps old school news groups with NNTP?
Omg that is hilarious
That, and the picture of your testicles.
Hang the picture on your wall and kiss it every morning.
I may frame it. They are so smooth!
You may have the wrong picture.
Your justification for carnism is a whataboutism with private jets and billionaires? That’s not a coherent argument. It only grazes the issue of global warming and completely ignores the cruelty of factory farming. (which is also a feature of having billionaires run everything). You’re implying that you are entitled to dominate animals because billionaires dominate society.
The hate for vegans is irrational. It happens because meat eaters know that they’re wrong and imagine that the existence of vegans is a judgment on themselves.
I’m not vegan, or even vegetarian. I just acknowledge the argument for carnism was lost a long time ago. And I’m willing to acknowledge that I often priorities selfish interest over what I know is right. (which is also obvious to everyone with a pinch of self-awareness and a molecule of honesty.)
Well said.
As a vegan:
A. wtf, why would this warrant banning? At most it should have been a warning to use a less hostile tone? B. Why is it absurd? Should I be okay with a burglary in my neighborhood when there are wars going on somewhere else? Your equivocating meat consumption with wasteful transport suggests to me a fundamental misunderstanding of the motivations of veganism. No sentient, feeling creature has to suffer and die for someone to take a jet ride, but they do for me to eat a hamburger. I think the private jetters should feel guilty too, but for different reasons. In any case, how do you feel about dog meat?
Regarding availability and cost efficiency: shipping soybeans from Kansas fields to a cattle ranch in Nebraska and then the beef to a grocer in Idaho is less efficient than shipping soybeans from Kansas to the grocer (obviously, this is an oversimplification). Not to mention that animals aren’t perfect energy converters, reducing efficiency further. I’m not arguing that it’d be easy for the whole world to convert to veganism, but in most developed countries it’d actually be more efficient and cost effective (at the society level; not necessarily for all individuals) for most people not to eat meat. Especially if subsidies for animal agriculture were redirected to plant agriculture.
In any case, who’s actually “ramming” ideology? As a casual lemmy user, I do see a surpising number of discussions on the matter of veganism, but most of what I’ve seen has been pretty civil. I do recall a lot of self-defeating thoughtless toxicity from vegans in the vegan subreddits, but I haven’t witnessed it myself on lemmy.
Yeah I don’t agree with you, but the place is literally called unpopular opinions, the ban makes no sense.

Someone tells me “Get your head out of your asshole” all they deserve is to get shit on.
Because you would never stoop to such insults? 🤦🏼
Oh, like you told vegans?
