The poll indicates support for the more aggressive position Newsom has taken in standing up to Donald Trump, particularly over a plan by Republicans in Texas to redraw their state’s congressional seat map in the hopes of winning more seats in midterm elections next year.
The battle to become the 2028 presidential election candidate will likely set the new direction for the Democratic Party as it struggles with net favorability at what one recent poll showed to be a three-year low. Newsom has not formally announced his candidacy.

I’d usually always vote dem, but I won’t vote for this one. Mostly for transphobic statements, but he’s actually kinda trumpy too
If we got to rank choice vote, I would absolutely put Newsom in above every current potential republican candidate, but the list above his name would also be quite long.
It might be a less popular opinion, but I’m really hopeful that Tim Walz gets the nod. He’s actually a human as opposed to a politician.

The new poll, conducted by Echelon Insights, has Newsom in second place among potential Democratic candidates with 13 percent support, behind former Vice President Kamala Harris with 26 percent.
The number one spot right now is the woman who lost the last election, while number two is the guy who’s been in the news lately. This is basically just measuring name recognition. It’s more than 3 years until the election, a frontrunner is meaningless at this point.

Yikes a transphobic dogwhistle and misinformation on sports. Trans women are biological women. Trans participating in sports was a non-issue in the us until the right started whining about it more recently. The International Olympic has stated that “no presumed advantage” based on sex assigned at birth or sex characteristics.
Women are more likely to participate in sports when trans players are included.
Cis-women receive harassment in sports because of comments like these.
Let me guess you don’t care about women and girls facing inequitable facilities, pay, and marketing; abusive coaches; and racist, sexist, and homophobic harassment.

Well now, if I hadn’t posted my mild comment that was removed for being politically incorrect, you wouldn’t have had the opportunity to inform me and others about this would you? If someone post things I disagree with I would rather correct them then censor them.

When kids are trans, what they need is all the help and support we can provide. Puberty blockers and hormones to help facilitate. God forbid a kid should be comfortable in their own skin.

You arguing that having an athletics disagreement is the equivalent of “wanting to eliminate trans people” sounds to me like the equivalent of conservatives saying that wanting common sense gun regulations is the equivalent of “wanting to take your gun from you”. i.e. You’re taking a mild position and translating that into the most extreme position possible. That’s not something I want to see in a regular commenter, let alone a mod with the ability to silence people with disagreeable opinions.

This tacit transphobia is often referred to as ‘dogwhistle’ transphobia. For example, one UK based transphobic hate group bought a full page advert which read: ‘Woman: an adult human female.’ The statement itself is not transphobic, but when the context for the statement is that the group in question believe that trans women can never be female the transphobic intent is clear. Similarly, when a football ‘fan’ throws a banana at a black player during a match, the racist intent is clear even though bananas are not inherently racist.
Dems need to ditch identity politics and focus on the class war just like Bernie keeps telling us.
It sucks but it’s kind of true. It won’t go over well in deeply left spaces but it’s not a matter of “compromise” we just have to fight smarter. We thought too highly of our population and expected too much. We are not a civilized nation that cares about others and never have been. We just got fed toxic positivity in our own little echo-chambers until we thought we could scold the rest of the country into being better.
I am saying this as someone who has supported equality and trans rights for years and years, but we’re not getting results pushing this boulder up the hill anymore. I care more about actually being able to achieve outcomes over if we’re taking the highest roads to get there.
