Well they’re not cops. They’re not army. They’re typically deployed in natural disasters or for superbowl-type-crowd control. They have regular 9-5 jobs and go to training once a month or something like that.

Nah going to Iraq and Afghanistan is part of what the Guard is for. They’re a component of the US Army that is normally controlled by the states, that’s what allows them to be used by state governors for disaster relief. Active component is federally controlled, full time soldiers. Reserves is federally controlled part time soldiers. The National Guard is state and federally controlled part time soldiers.

I don’t know what to tell ya, the majority of enlisted are ignorant kids. 90% or so of the total military has never shot at another human. Combat roles only account for 10-20% of the military. But keep on generalizing, that’s the way to a more perfect union for sure.

It’s important to contextualize what America’s military is. They’re a 100% volunteer military. Sure you’ll say it’s 100% killers that sign up, but that’s far from the truth. If you’ve grown up with little options, no mobility, or a reason to put your whole town in your rearview, the military is enticing. Young impressionable women and men jump at that opportunity. Also again, they’re kids. They’ve barely figured out their genitals let alone how the world works.
I’ve been in their shoes as a young dumb bum with no options looking down the barrel of an economic system/situation stacked against me.

I am american. I am old enough to have watched two invasions of iraq, afghanistan, cuban military crisis, blowback from choices in vietnam, and current support of genocide and countless other nonsense.
That we are 100% volunteer is my EXACT point. People with the access to the same knowledge I have still join because why? I can only assume it’s because they are still children. A deplorable thing our nation relies on: youth’s unfinished brain development.
I spend more time in my community helping in ways I can such as being a first responder, working in healthcare, feeding people, etc.
None of which kills brown children across the globe. All of which helps local people.
