We need to get off YouTube’s monopolistic dick
Brick Immortar produces incredibly high-quality and detailed documentaries of naval accidents.
Badempanada produces really well-written video essays on all sorts of political-adjacent stuff, usually with the intent to tear down the western world’s propaganda wall.
Gtrippin is a super small channel but they do incredible psychedelics simulators. Link due to small size
- Everything Daven Hiskey and Simon Whistler make
- Geographics channel could use some love
- Eric Rosen chess
- Veritasium (popular but well produced and informative)
- Adam Savage’s channel of mythbusters fame
- Montemayor - rarely posts but his WW2 battle breakdowns are so good!
I love Brandon Rogers sketch comedy! His frenetic energy is really something special.
How To Say Your Favourite Colour And Not Embarrass Yourself This is the funniest and most relatable rant I’ve come across in a while, it probably won’t hit as hard if you’re not a neurotic overthinker though.
Adventures In State Space This is an incredibly well edited video talking about a very interesting maths thing. You don’t have to know why/how the math thing works to enjoy the video. He has other good ones too like where he fucks with a Mandelbrot/Julia set.
Space Station Weird is a bunch of short animations set in the distant future on a very weird space station.
WatchDust is the main page for a channel with a curated selection of independently made short scifi films. Many are really good.
Soggy Rock Facts To Dazzle Your Enemies This is Sage The Bad Naturalist’s channel and she’s a very smart and interesting person who talks about science.

Hints for improving the algorithm:
-
From your watch history, delete videos that are too similar to the ones you don’t want to watch.
-
Use the triple dot menu under the video suggestion to tell them you’re not interested. Choosing a reason is not necessary, but you can pick one if it fits.
-
If you think you’re going to lose out on something by doing the above, add the video to a playlist first. Not the Watch Later list. Make a new one.
-
Check your previously made playlists for content you’ve forgotten about. This might only apply if you did step 3 at some point previously.

DCA is amazing! I don’t quite understand why I watch every single one of his videos, but I do
Lately I’ve been watching Practical Engineering where the host gives some basic explanations about the engineering considerations for designing various infrastructure projects like dams or railroads. I’ve also seen some interesting videos from Wendover Productions about airline operations like how airlines design their route networks for a competitive advantage or how they assign planes to routes.
Also Animagrafs, if you’re into engineering.
Roffle Light, Roffle Heavy. Great Balatro content to fall asleep to.
Channels i like:
- Covers various tech topics, mostly related to gaming: https://www.youtube.com/@CallumUpton
- Too much time playing games the way they are not intended to: https://www.youtube.com/@LetsGameItOut
- Very good educational videos: https://www.youtube.com/@fern-tv
- Australia news in honest and funny, dont life there but its interesting: https://www.youtube.com/@thejuicemedia
- Its german but very funny stupid projects in germany (directly a video that should be understandable from visual context): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBgjDIJP2mA
You could also look if there is something on peertube(fedi) or another YT alternative interesting you
And if you dont like to watch on the alternatives because you like ads or something: a lot are on YT tooI find that deleting videos from my watch history in youtube does more for recommendations then brute forcing other videos.
did that, but i seem not to be entertained about the new algorithm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GesBe0XY-U a video about a flash style horse race game that people started making lore about and just went crazy. quite entertaining
I’ve been watching a lot of Josh Johnson stand-up. I don’t understand how he’s so prolific that he’s putting out a completely new set every week at least, and maybe even every show he does? https://www.youtube.com/@JoshJohnsonComedy
Each show is unique, from what I see in the comments. I feel like he’s not doing the traditional ‘write a set’ thing, but he works backwards from an idea (“America feels like a Dollar General nowadays”, for example) and has the ability to conjure an hour of almost shaggy-dog-story material on the spot leading you to that endpoint.
Rare talent.
