Donald Trump warned Tuesday that if the Democrats don’t approve funding, there are dangers to the future of Social Security and Medicare.

Trump said at a press conference that when he asked Democrats for feedback on the funding bills, one said, “It means death.”

“There’s nothing about death,” Trump said. “Theirs is death because they’re going to lose Medicaid, they’re going to lose Social Security, they’re going to lose Medicare, all of those things are going to be gone because the whole country would be bankrupt, and you’re not going to have any kind of medical insurance.”

No he won’t. EVERY Republican knows that if they end Social Security, every one of them will lose their next primary, and Dems will control Congress for decades.

Following WWII, Dems controlled Congress for years, because Americans didn’t trust SS in the hands of Republicans. Eventually, even Republicans had to admit that it was untouchable.

He won’t dare touch SS, or it will be the end of the Republican Party.

There have been so many things in the last some years that should have been the end of the Republican party…

Cuz doubting he’d do something idiotic that he first says he won’t do, then jokes about, then says he might do and eventually says he will do, has been working out great for you guys so far…

Maggots will believe whatever excuse he says after taking away all of their benefits.

I can already hear my mom, who’s on SSDI, blindly parroting “well maybe it’s a good thing they’re getting rid of it.”

But we don’t speak anymore since she said the same about abortion, and she knows damn well queer rights are up next, and I’m queer.

There are working playbooks for this all over the world.

Nine months ago, I’d have said the same thing about Medicare, but here we are today with a trillion dollars in Medicare cuts coming, on top of the trillion in Medicaid. And MAGA seems super happy about it.

Nah, they’ll blame it on democrats and 30% will believe it. Which is also apparently the number you need to win a presidential election these days.

I mean has the U.S. ever really had that? I recognise that things can get worse, but the U.S. democratic system has always looked like a joke to me.

“every one of them will lose their next primary, and Dems will control Congress for decades.”

Your optimism is blinding. The Dems will control Congress for 2 years, maybe 4. 6 at the absolute maximum. Your average Republican can watch their loved ones die because of Republican policies and blame Democrats 2 years later.

Also democrats won’t do anything to make structural change in the economy or wealth of the country, so even if given the reins of power, they will only succeed at not actively making life worse.

The litterally blamed Dems for talking about how bad COVID was gonna be, causing their oppositional-defiant toddler logic brains to reject common sense measures to prevent getting sick and dying.

I’d like you to be right, but things have changed a lot since WW2.

For example, we have embraced the fascism that we previously fought.

And one of the things that has changed is that every working American of every political affiliation counts on their Social Security for their retirement. For many, it’s the only consistent savings they did for retirement. Take that away, and you will literally threaten their existence.

Millions of pissed off old people, with nothing to lose, many with military experience, is not a good enemy to create.

I have an aunt slowly dying of kidney disease, living on just Social Security. She got hit hard by the Medicare cuts and it hasn’t affected her love for Trump in the slightest. My mom just got a text from her where she says she’s looking forward to meeting “Jesus and Charlie Kirk” lol.

It’s going to be really hard for Trump to abolish SS, and try to blame the Dems, who don’t control shit. Sure, there are the MAGA Super-Morons, but most people are going to see very clearly, especially when Dems are screaming that if they get voted in, they’ll restore SS.

When I first started checking out Nextdoor occasionally (mainly looking for cheap used bicycles) I was hopeful that it was mostly just bots. Unfortunately I started seeing posts from people I actually know in real life, and I was reminded of why I (very happily) bailed on Facebork fifteen years ago.

Oh man, any time I’m tempted to read some post on nextdoor because it might be nearby enough to care about, I mindlessly start checking comments. Within seconds, it is apparent that my only options are to close it immediately or to set myself up to despair over the state of society.

I don’t think Republicans are able to process any conherant thought since 2016. If they suddenly don’t have their Social Security payments, Trump will point at someone else and they’ll just drool and nod along with what their cult leader said.

Plus how many rural dipshits were hurt by Trump in his first term and went for him again? How many are hurt by his even more expensive erosion of things and still think “This will be worth it, I just know the libs are more hurt by this.”
