Wait who was Scotty’s nephew?
Peter, the ensign he was riding so hard.
TIL
The bloody Cadet Scotty brought to the bridge for some reason.
Engineers are just big cats. “Hey admiral, I caught this for you.”
I had to look it up - apparently this guy’s relation to Scotty is only explained in the director’s cut of Wrath of Khan https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Peter_Preston
That certainly contributed to my not knowing it. Thank you very much.
I think any onscreen reference to him being the nephew were cut
It was eventually added back in for the Director’s Edition, though.
If memory serves, I’m pretty sure he just showed up for the movie.
Do not recall. thanks!
Here’s a pic:

He was an engineer, then dies in an attack by Khan’s ship, and Scotty carries his body up to the bridge for some reason. It wasn’t a huge part.
Those were definitely some of the costumes of all time, weren’t they?
Thank you very much for the info!
It makes things narratively simpler when the doomed disposable crewmembers have the bullseye right on them like that. 🎯
Federation warp cores of that era weren’t exactly the safest things.
Lotsa radiation.
Like bananas.
T’be fair, seems likely his nephew has a torpedo funeral service en route. It was good enough for Spock, after all.
Star Trek: The Search for Ensign Peter
Poor Peter was resurrected all alone on the other side of the Genesis Planet while shit went down, but nobody ever knew.
“Guys? Uncle Montgomery? Anyone? …Well, this sucks.”
