      What’s galling is that we still spend near a trillion dollars on they military every single year. Never really any justification but especially now with precisely zero actual wars.

      • No, that makes perfect sense, frankly. When the US does diplomacy, it’s presented with the sound of a metal pipe dragging behind it. Not since Mongolia has an empire managed to so effectively threaten such a large proportion of the world’s population into cooperating.

        Phrased another way, the US dollar isn’t backed by oil, gold, or functional financial institutions, it is backed by the implicit threat of violence.

      Not yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

      As reflexively anti-Trump as most people, including the Mango Mussolini himself, seem to think it is, the NYT is first and foremost pro-establishment and therefore in favor of the military industrial complex and American imperialism.
