Ted Kennedy passed some important laws in Healthcare and privacy.
Mass media manipulation. Just like any group that think royal families still have value.
It’s the same way the Kardashians are famous.
They bought the fame. Then they bought people to talk about their fame.
I don’t know anyone under 60 that gives a shit about the Kennedys. The older folks only really cared because of the conspiracy theories behind the assassination of JFK.
Here’s the thing about that.
I still think Lee Harvey Oswald was a fall guy. That being said, whomever was resposible for killing Kennedy was a hero that saved the whole plannet.
This may sound harsh at first. But consider this. I challenge you to name another person from any country that brought us as close to WWIII with nukes as he did.
He actively sought out invading Cuba. He armed nukes in Turkey aimed at Russia, then acted surprised when Russia did LITERALLY THE SAME THING BACK!!!
There was a misconception back then that USSR had the advantage in nukes. In reality, the USA had close to 3x the number of nukes as USSR at the time. I still believe if Kennedy knew that, he would have gone all in on a nuclear attack. And I fully believe it would not have been fully effective. I also fully believe USSR would have retaliated. And once that happens, I don’t believe there is descalation. The cold war goes hot. And from there it’s impossible to predict what happens next. It all depends on how many nukes hit their target, and how many were shot down. In any event, I can’t imagine either side using all their nukes in one go. So now you have a hot war, where periodically one side or the other realizes they can wipe out a large portion of the others military.
This would lead to a situation where neither side would place their armies too close together. Which means now this evolves into a series of micro wars all around the world. And whichever side won would be THE superpower.
And no other president has brought us closer to that scenario. There was a time, for 3 weeks, when that was the expected result. USSR nukes pointed at USA, and USA nukes pointed at (mainly) Russia. Tanks for both sides on the east/west German border. Both sides hesitant to fire first. Both sides knowing what would happen if a single shot were fired. Eventually, backing up inch by inch. Both sides compromising.
Kennedy is the one who brought us to that point. He’s remembered fondly, simply because the vietnam war hadn’t escalated under his watch, even though thats what he WAS going to do. He fully prepared to do what Johnson did. His advisors were taking him down that path. But people forget that.
My circle all talks shit about the Kentucky dynasty and how it shouldn’t be a thing. If you’re going off tv shows and other media to form your belief that the US is “obsessed” with the Kennedys, you’re only getting a controlled, small view that doesn’t reflect all or even the majority.
JFK was young, handsome, and killed before he did anything to ruin his reputation. Similar with the original RFK. Other Kennedys are more infamous than anything. Ted? RFK Jr? Lots of Americans who heartily dislike them
That’s like thinking all UK folks love their monarchy and want it to continue. Lol, no.
I honestly think that whether people like or dislike them is a bit beside the point. I don’t think I can mention any other family “dynasty” that has had the same consistent political power as the Kennedys over decades in the modern world. And I live in a Monarchy.
Only 3 Kennedys had real power with the new RFK being a weird outlier, and one without much real juice. They’re just a rich family with name recognition at this point.
How about the Bush family? I’d rank them above the Kennedys.
You would think a rich affluent family would not be in favor?
Why would you think they wouldn’t be in favor? The richest man in the world is one of the favorite topics for people to talk about here too. His most devout fans don’t even talk about him as much as the haters do.
I think it’s largely about jealousy, whether people admit it (even to themselves) or not. I’m not saying they want to be the richest person in the world, but the vast majority of people struggle with finances to some extent, so it’s understandable to resent those with wealth. When someone has something you can’t get, the way out is to convince yourself you didn’t even want it in the first place - and that the ones who have it are bad people.
John F. Kennedy, the president, was popular because he was young and good looking. He was also the first and only Catholic president, which curried favour with a lot of Catholics (Italian, Irish, and Hispanic cultures lean Catholic). Then there was the Cuban Missile Crisis, which he is credited for de-escalating. And then he was assassinated, which created a bunch of conspiracy theories.
You may have heard of a little-known movie called Titanic… /s if not obvious… and this filmmaker, James Cameron, who really wanted to learn more about the ship and its fated voyage, so he justified spending millions of dollars on a fact-finding mission to the bottom of the Atlantic to look at the wreckage. He justified that with a movie that made over a billion dollars.
There’s a similar story about JFK. American writer Stephen King had a similar fascination with JFK. So he began obsessing over it, and it it was taking him away from his writing. His wife/manager pointed this out, so he worked it into a book. It’s called 11/22/63, and some people who have never read his book IT, think it’s his best book. (Those of us who have read IT also love 11/22/63, but it sure ain’t his best!) It’s got one of the best endings to a King book, ever. And it’s way better than Titanic. It’s about a guy from our time who wants to know what really happened, and he meets a guy with a portal to 1958. So the catch is, he has to go through this portal, which is in Maine, and then he has about five years to get to Texas, hundreds of miles away. Oh, every trip through the portal resets the timeline, so he could just rob the same bank a bunch of times to fund his trip. They never thought of that, though. So anyway, guy goes to the 1950s, forgets to leave his iPhone behind, so he throws that in a lake (god forbid he just start over, right?). Then he goes to Dallas (does a bunch of other stuff first) and shadows Lee Harvey Oswald, the guy who assassinated JFK. He can’t just shoot him, though he does want to stop the assassination. He wants the truth. Not only does he get the truth, he saves JFK. And that’s when shit goes sideways. Hell of a book. Might help you understand why Americans loved JFK. King’s love for JFK shines through what is an incredible adventure. Which makes the ending so much better. It’s almost believable, time portal and all.
King also mentions JFK as a Gunslinger of our world in the Dark Tower.
wasn’t Biden Catholic?
Yes. “First” is correct, “only” not anymore, if the above commenter is an AI chatbot, it should really update its training data.
No one has given a shit about them for decades.
Americans love rich families, that is shown over and over again, each generation a new rich family is in the spotlight.
Fortunately, I think more people are realizing that ABAB. I don’t know which rich family is garnering admiration at the moment, but if their net worth is under a billion, they’re just playing at rich. Real power starts at billionaire status, today. And, most Americans can’t name more than three or four of them. The current estimate is >900 billionaires in the U.S.
Additionally, admiring the rich is certainly not exclusive to the U.S., just to be clear.
Let’s not pretend that people with a net worth over 100 million aren’t obscenely wealthy too please. Be real.
Americans substitute wealthy people for the royalty we’ve never had.
Today, there is no obsession, your assumption is false.
You might also think that a convicted felon rapist would not be in favor, but people are fucking stupid.
You would think a rich affluent family would not be in favor?
Did you point this out to the folks over in the UK? It is this just an effort to pile on the anti-American rhetoric
