It’s so stupid. People like JD Vance are so stupid. They don’t even consider that they could spin this as a bad event, and the shithead should be prosecuted and that their ICE actions are valid. I don’t agree with ICE and I’m not defending them. But if ICE is valid, then it’s valid that they could fuck up too. It would help their cause to run things in a less toxic way.

But this is asking for nuance from this administration. They’re a bunch of maladjusted sociopaths. And to reiterate: I’m not defending ICE.

At this point they don’t care about looking good. They care about looking powerful. They want people to know they can do this and nothing happens. Look what Miller is saying. We can do whatever we want to other countries because we have the power to do so. Same with ICE here.

These people suck. And there’s 10s of millions in this country that support them. Midterms won’t save us. Only reprogramming them will.

Yeah but he knows that if they think they have to follow rules… Trump supporters that can barely read and write wouldn’t sign up to be jack-booted thugs.

Nuance? I’m valid. If I accidentally walk into a bank demanding money, can you spin that?

ICE is valid, but are way outside the scope they have historically been used for, with a flood of barely trained new people, going where they’re not wanted, to terrorize the population on the flimsy excuse of immigrants. They somehow believe they’re above the law and their victims are beneath it. If your “nuance” is this entire mission is criminal, ok. But there’s no nuance saying you can go this far into depriving people of rights, then claim that executing them is an accident

It would honestly make the administration look better if they said “this ICE agent went rogue and will be held accountable. ICE as a whole does not condone this”, but instead, they’re defending it and effectively telling us ICE will continue to kill innocent citizens with impunity. They’re telling us this is what they’re supposed to be doing

It’s one of a few weaknesses they have. The whole “stick to your guns” strong-and-tough-guy ideology makes it impossible to backtrack, quickly pivot, or even feign concern, to achieve a quick tactical victory. All that is tantamount to failure and admitting defeat. Instead, they have to either build a massive smokescreen, lie their pants off, or dig even deeper into an already cursed situation. Then there’s tribalism, making it impossible to publicly throw their own goons under the bus. It’s a stupid and weirdly consistent mindset (i.e. lawful evil), but when it comes to this cabal and their supporters, it’s kind of their whole deal.

Their cause and purpose is terror and psychological abuse. For that reason they are already on point for serving their cause.

Worst part is, it’s not a new thing. It’s a topic of concern for a character in a book I’m writing - where a powerful figure knows she’s wrong on some occasions, but the political atmosphere rewards her more for boasting her righteousness on those issues.
