WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration secretly reimposed a policy limiting Congress members’ access to immigration detention facilities a day after a federal immigration officer fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis, attorneys for several congressional Democrats said Monday in asking a federal judge to intervene.
Three Democratic members of Congress from Minnesota were blocked from visiting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility near Minneapolis on Saturday, three days after an ICE officer shot and killed U.S. citizen Renee Good in the city.
Last month, U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb in Washington, D.C., temporarily blocked ICE from enforcing policies limiting Congress members’ access to immigration detention facilities. In a court filing on Monday, plaintiffs’ lawyers asked Cobb to hold an emergency hearing and decide if the duplicate notice policy violates her order. Cobb scheduled a hearing for Wednesday.
He’s going to come up with some excuse no matter how flimsy and by then it’ll be too close to the elections. Doing it now means that there are still 11 months which would be more than enough time to erode support for it.
He literally CAMPAIGNED on “no more elections”, why does anyone think there will be a 2026 election.
He’ll illegally decree there will be no election, Congress will do nothing. This has been going on a whole year now, get with the program.
At thte very least, the GOP has been losing some key elections in 2025, some they didn’t even expect to lose. Maybe some people could theorize these as “tactical losses”, but you may be better off not incorrectly viewing these idiots as masterminds. They bank on complicity, not tactics.
I don’t think they’re tactical losses… But I do think it’s going to force their hand into cancelling the election since they can SEE the effect of allowing democracy to survive.
It’s either them or democracy and they’re never picking anyone but themselves.
