Pretty much the same. ENT was borderline with their war on terror phase, temporal war and some weird decisions, like introducing the Ferengi at that time… well, maybe I shouldn’t scratch the surface too much. But some of it was good enough to make it an acceptable ensemble, at least to me. I’ve never been a huge fan of the movies but ended up seeing most of them.
But it started to change with the movie in 2009. I didn’t like it but it’s ok, it’s a single movie. I thought I’d wait for the next series but they continued with this kind of movies. Then Discovery happened and I was also disappointed. I still watch reviews of the new stuff and avoid all the crap about being too woke because I know ST has always been woke, but the way the stories are now presented is not piquing my interest. I don’t mind preachy Trek, I like it, but IMHO The Orville is doing much better allegories than what modern ST produces. The new stuff seems like an attempt at being action/pop and so far, none of it seems to take place in a world/universe that I would like to know more about. I keep hoping they will fix this and have something different, but aside from LD, it’s always more of the same to me.
The last time a Star Trek project piqued my interest, it was Axanar, and the project got sued. Now with the new stories and bagage in the canon universe, I just feel like giving up on it. I was recently watching a new video about a character in Star Trek but it was featuring stuff from the new series, and I just stopped at that point. It feels like it’s not for me anymore, and I shouldn’t even bother. I’ll just keep rewatching the very same list you mentioned, adding LD, and pretend the rest doesn’t exist.
Academy has been good so far, way lower stakes, but you have to get past the first ten minutes of episode one. It sets up the main plot, but it’s way more… Discovery style bad shit happening and baseless action, than the rest of the show. IMO they should have filled it in as backstory later in the ep, after they’d established more of a tone, but otherwise it gets good quick.
Nah I felt the same with Discovery and SNW. They both suffer from short seasons that don’t really go exploring in favor of drama. SNW just seems more like a retread of TOS with Captain Pike. Are we ever going to go further in the continuity after 90s Trek?
std and snw suffers from kurtzmans agenda, and poor writing direction. not because its a short season. it was terrible form the get go, snw is somewhat better but the actors are so wooden in thier acting.
i forgot the nutrek has no exploration at all, its just a convoluted Enemy that turns out to be a dud. remember the “burn” its an overgrown manchild that screams and destroys ships in the future. a whole season build up only to drop it the next season.
E.g.: the illogical irrational hyper-emoting vulcans.
Uh, Vulcans have always been illogical and irrational. This is partially because the writers tend to be bad at basic logic, but Trek has a looong history of Vulcans being pompous, racist assholes that are irrationally obsessed with tradition to the point they made it a de facto religion.
They are usually stone faced while they do it, though.
the actors including anson MOUnt acting was so wooden, its not even believable, lol. of course they always tease with the more interesting romulans and then drop them the next season.
jj abrams started the decline of trek, and kurtzman just went with it, because he though it was people like lens flare, poor lighting, only flimsly action scenes.
STD, picard are the poorest quality of nutrek, snw tries to remedy it, but it still suffer from poor acting and writing. and then comes academy? sec31? lower decks and prodigy however is quite reasonable.
Discovery (aka the Michael Burnham mary-su express) and the first two seasons of Picard are awful. Third season of Picard gets a pass because it’s basically a nostalgia trip that could very nearly qualify as TNG Season 8.
funny thing kurtzman stole material from the fan-novels, the books arnt canon though. and even went cringe as so far to use words from the alpha and beta wiki pages. the borg alliance with federation from a fan novel, rogue changling from another book, more than likely he just searched on memory beta(non-canon) works. STO would be canon-adjacent.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lower Decks, just because it’s a comedy doesn’t mean it isn’t serious sci fi with real stakes like any other trek show. It highlights how absurd the writing of trek throughout can be and still rolls with it, still treating that absurdity with the same seriousness as everything else crazy in the universe.
Nah, it’s not you. Trek has changed for the worse. Sure, it’s pretty and shot well, and the actors are trying. Though the writing is modern action drama for the most part. It’s not written to be timeless. It’s not written to be intelligent first. It’s written to be “entertaining” first.
Everyone says later seasons of Picard are good, but… I just cannot. I cannot accept the universe they built. 1.5 entire seasons of shit drag it down for me. I’d take another SNW singing episode over Picard.
Academy is still continuing in the entertainment first route, but it at least seems like they’re attempting to inject a little intelligence into it. Still a bit dubious on saying it’s “good” trek, but at least it’s not corrupt trash. Or maybe the rest of the junk has just eaten away at my sensibilities.
Picard was pretty bad from start to finish, they dropped the borg alliance the moment season 2 ended. and it was obvious baity to include the “enterprise” crew in the last few episodes.
SNW or Picard… is like choosing which form of torture. How about just “no”.
I have yet to watch SNW past the point where the illogical irrational emotional vulcans first appear.
Picard, I endured the lot. Kept trying really really hard to like it, because it has Jean Luc Picard in it. Kept trying really really hard to suspend disbelief and ignore all the dumb. Kept trying to tell myself it had redeemed itself a little bit for season 3. But no. You’re right. Cannot build a sound house on such swampy sloppy ground.
It’s not trek. None of the Kurtzman dross is trek. Roddenberry spinning so fast in his grave, hook up a dynamo, and we could power a warp drive.
I do wish someone would confront the makers of the Kurtzman crap with the idea “what if all art is a tool of manifestation”, and let them face the horror of what they’ve done.
picard/patrick stewart seemed very Low energy in his acting for the whole show, like hes just not into it at all, likely hates doing trek roles by now, since had done it for along time before. wasnt kurtzman the showrunner of transformers, and he admited he dint watch any trek series, and just ignored continuity?
Picard was alot worse than snw , snw was so-so bordering on s a D+, by season 2 the writing was so bad by the end of the season.
Sorry but except for LD, everything NuTrek doesn’t fit at the top of that triangle for me, and belongs in either one of the bottom corner.
Or maybe I just don’t like Star Trek anymore. Just like Seymour; am I wrong for not liking NuTrek? No, it’s the children who are wrong!
I watch TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT every 2 years roughly. TOS is just not for me. But nutrek is hot garbage.
Pretty much the same. nutrek is just terrible under kurtzman, other than LD and prodigy.
I really like SNW, as well as your list.
Discovery and Picard were collosal “mehs”.
I’m scared to try Starfleet Academy.

From what very very little I’ve seen of SNW, it seemed to break the established universe. E.g.: the illogical irrational hyper-emoting vulcans.
I’ve failed to force myself to keep watching past the first appearance of that.
Uh, Vulcans have always been illogical and irrational. This is partially because the writers tend to be bad at basic logic, but Trek has a looong history of Vulcans being pompous, racist assholes that are irrationally obsessed with tradition to the point they made it a de facto religion.

While I want to say that the combined effort of JJ Abrams and DIS have thoroughly trampled that possibility. PIC
jj abrams started the decline of trek, and kurtzman just went with it, because he though it was people like lens flare, poor lighting, only flimsly action scenes.
Discovery soured me so much i haven’t watched anything but Picard since.
Wise. Keep what little sanity and composure and faith in humanity you have left.
STD, picard are the poorest quality of nutrek, snw tries to remedy it, but it still suffer from poor acting and writing. and then comes academy? sec31? lower decks and prodigy however is quite reasonable.
Poor acting on SNW? I quite enjoy that show.
Discovery (aka the Michael Burnham mary-su express) and the first two seasons of Picard are awful. Third season of Picard gets a pass because it’s basically a nostalgia trip that could very nearly qualify as TNG Season 8.
Huh. I’ll have to give Lower Decks a chance; it’s the only one with the name Kurtzman attached that I haven’t yet watched and been disappointed by.
Lower Decks is top tier Star Trek.
The more widespread your Star Trek knowledge, the more you’ll enjoy it.
It’s Star Trek written by true Star Trek nerds.
What if you don’t enjoy people acting obnoxiously? S.O.L.?
Then stick through the first couple eps. The characters do develop. I was kinda meeeer first watch, but then it found its feets
Just like every other trek series it takes a bit to grow the beard.
Stick to true trek.
Maybe even explore the books.
funny thing kurtzman stole material from the fan-novels, the books arnt canon though. and even went cringe as so far to use words from the alpha and beta wiki pages. the borg alliance with federation from a fan novel, rogue changling from another book, more than likely he just searched on memory beta(non-canon) works. it is the one of trek through clips that was watachable and enjoyable. they had to sacrifice prodigy too.
