I know the US has it’s failings, but I believe if Trump were in front of a jury of 12 and all the evidence was laid out he would be convicted. The corruption is that we have weak people in the DOJ that won’t bring charges and we have weak people in the Supreme Court that will cover for him if anyone below grows a set.

he is not mentioned 38000 times. this number comes from new york times article, where they count everything related to him, including locations.

so someone sending email to someone saying “orange cheeto with melania and donald junior will be spending christmas at mar-a-lago, said eric” counts as five for that count.

also the files contain collection of tips from the fbi hotlines, and his name there also counts and when you use the number 38000 as a proof, these tips are direct opposite, they are something that needs to be proved first.

not saying he isn’t asshole, but people should know what they are saying.

The weird thing is that it’s been for sure as soon as he bragged about it in 2005, but the allegations of him walking in on teen locker rooms are from the 90s. His whole adult life has been a stream of constant sexual misconduct allegations, and now centrists are starting to clutch their pearls like this is a new development.

No, it pretty surely is that he is a pedophile … he said so himself. It was recorded and he knew it was recorded. The fact that this was news in a lot of the country but not on any Republican-serving media source is testament to the lengths they went to in order to protect a disgusting human being.

What’s really sick is that a bunch of Americans would’ve voted for him if they knew. Probably not enough to win an election even against Hillary Clinton who acted like the presidency was owed to her without campaigning, but enough to illustrate a problem in this country both with where people get their “facts” and how few care what the facts are.

There isn’t a whole lot of press coverage of the resistance unless a white person dies. It is happening though.

A lot of the people who aren’t resisting are spending all of their energy just to keep food on their table and a roof over their head, scared shitless of a regime that delights in random violence. Make your own judgement on how good those reasons are, but that isn’t the same thing as being ok with what’s happening.

          I’m done tiptoeing around.

Trump and the GOP generally are a Christian nationalist project. MAGA’s core support base is white Christians.

Yes I know some Quakers and episcopalians too. They’re a tiny tiny minority.

If the majority of white Christians stopped supporting maga, it would be over tomorrow.

          Nope.

MAGA has come out of American Christianity. Christians OWN THIS. They are the core, perhaps the only, demographic

Christianity is immoral, unethical, and utterly false. It gives rise to this sort of thing because it is an abjectly evil system. It requires the acceptance and worship of an utterly depraved and inhuman monster. It is a system used to pervert people’s minds into thinking evil acts are good. It is a tool of oppression and has single-handedly done more to prevent Human social progress than any other system ever invented.

Fuck Christianity. It’s an evil death cult that worships the most wicked character in all of literature. It deserves to be left in the dustbin of history, and it’s adherents deserve to be utterly shunned by society at large.

You can say the same about any religion. Christianity spans much more than “American Christianity”. Lemmy is a place for people of the whole world is it not? You can’t refer to Christianity as a whole when talking about a very specific brand of it.

I would have thought Lemmy would not discriminate based on nationality, race, creed or religion, but I see such hate towards religion in general (here) that, honestly, you are not being respectful to others’ beliefs. Is this what we want Lemmy to be?

Yes, you certainly can say this about any religion, something to think on. Right now it’s Christianity’s time to shine though since it is at the center of American fascism and is manufacturing complicity for one of the most serious child trafficking rings in American history.

              Fuck off, yes I can.

And I was explicitly and specifically referring to American Christianity. That’s why I used that term.

Also, what TF are you talking about Lemmy discriminating? Lemmy isn’t hiring anybody, or denying Christians services, or anything like that.

I’m allowed to point out how evil and manipulative Christianity is and has been since it’s inception. I do not respect Christians or Christianity because they are not worthy of respect. Maybe you should lose the persecution complex and sit down and have an actual think about what your backward beliefs are actually based on and actually do in this world - the real one, not your fantasy invisible worlds

Now that the newly released parts of the epstein files are getting worse and worse, why do people think someone named 38000 times so far in those files to be still suitable as a president?

Which is why it doesn’t make sense because someone will use it that way, especially with the existence of Gen AI. Its not that donald trump is for sure a pedophile. Its that there are 350 million people in the USA and there is no need to make someone where its even a question president .

Sounds to me like you’re saying you don’t need any evidence because even questioning whether someone is a pedo is enough to invalidate their candidacy.

How about you pull Trumps head out of your ass and apply your statement to ANY other past or future presidential candidate. Let’s say in the future AOC runs for president and the republicans call her a pedo. Do you think that’s enough to make her unfit to be president? Because that is exactly what your title is saying, that simply by questioning whether she’s a pedo (doesn’t matter how obvious the answer would be) she’d no longer be fit to be president.

The chaos is the point, I would say it’s even a benefit for them to have such an obvious heinous piece of shit in charge of everything, the more he’s in the files the better for them, it urges the collapse even more when it calls to question everything we know about the world around us

This society has been taken down a very dark path for decades and it started with conservative media - first talk radio and then cable “news” and now internet podcasts and the like.

When I’ve had people my own age come to me and start on about hidden cities at the center of the earth and all of the sudden go off about it as if! they didn’t get the exact same Earth Science lessons in the SAME schools at the same time as I did…

          I really have to ask:

          1. “Did you hit your head recently and suffer brain damage?”

          2. “Why did you become so gullible?”

          And finally,

          1. “When did you decide to opt in to superstition, ignorance and New Age, New Earth woo woo shit - the SAME shit that you and I BOTH made fun of when we were kids?”

(When did you decide to get old, boring and stupid, basically…)

It’s the Karl Rove effect in action, I guess. The conservatives just spew so much shit that the rubes that can’t shut them off for the terror of losing their made up “identity” just go soft in the head and believe lies that 30 years ago, they would not have.

Repeated lies… decades of them. Warping reality and making fearful people cling to the lies.

That’s exactly the effect I’ve noticed. Add in the inability to admit you’ve been wrong, and instead make even more insane claims to support the stupid lies you believe, and baby you got a stew going.

I don’t even know how we counter it now, there are cracks in the vineer, sure, some people recognising the mistake in fomoing radical right wing ideas, the Epstein and ICE stuff in particular. But unless there are real steps taken to deradicalize media apparatuses, I don’t know, we’re still going in the wrong direction until the common folk can wrestle back power from those who benefit from us toppling our own best interests.

The culture war was all a psyop, meant to drive wedges between folk who had more in common with each other than the ones driving the wedges. The whole system of cruelty in healthcare, the cynicism it takes to witness school shootings and shrug, the pleasure in revoking basic humanity, all of it is in the benefit of monsters.

Even if we can wrestle back the narrative, even tomorrow, it would still take a very long time, and the ones stirring the chaos have so much power and so many resources that they can keep playing this game, while you and I are just struggling to keep our heads above the water.

I think this is one of those times in history where there’s a strong consensus among the public that he’s a corrupt pedo who needs to be removed from office and face justice, however, that can’t happen because the institutions that are supposed to keep people like him in check are so gutted and corrupted that they’re effectively useless. Congress, federal agencies, the states, and the supreme court are supposed to hold him accountable, but they aren’t because Trump and his cronies control just enough of each of these institutions to paralyze them. That’s kind of fascism works, you lie to people to get into power and then erode every institution to cement yourself there forever.

    There is a need.

For billionaires, who need a useful idiot they can control. It’s why they’re normalizing electing presidents whose brains do not function properly.

The 350,000,000 who are not billionaires have no power whatsoever when it comes to selecting the president. Hell, in 2016 a five-minute meeting with a presidential candidate at a party convention cost upwards of $400,000.

    Our only power is local.
