This artist just wanted to get their thoughts about boogers out in the public discourse, and the comic with a punchline was just an attempt to make it less weird. Change my mind.

It’s a joke older than the internet, it’s not the author’s own thoughts about boogers, it’s someone else’s that they just used in a comic format.

just because other people have had the thought doesn’t mean it’s not their thought too. just because crabs (or anteaters. or whatever) evolved from multiple directions doesn’t mean they had to originate the same place.

Back in my day, the memes fit the message. Nowadays, it’s like they are rolling the dice which one they use for what is copy paste of their insta post. Like the abuse of the “Lisa on Stage” meme, it’s so on point that it’s obvious they aren’t even trying to be funny.

That’s not particularly exclusive to comics. Jokes in general are infinitely re-hashable, which is fine as long as the comedian puts in the effort to make it their own and doesn’t just steal the joke and try to pass it off as their own.

i mean look at the difference between i want a new drug and ghostbusters. ray parker jr doesn’t just rip off huey lewis and the news, he adds some original new sections and it’s damn good music.
