Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst experience you had with a famous celebrity or a political figure?
10·4 days agoFucking Sam Donaldson got me kicked out of first class on a flight from LA when I was 14.
Peter Berg snubbed me at a going away party for a mutual friend, but to be fair I was drunk and 16. His wife was really sweet though.
Ran lights for Bill Cosby twice and while his rider asked for lots of catering and satellite coverage of the NCAA finals, he never said a word to crew and only spent 5 min in the green room before / after his set before leaving for the hotel.
They aren’t “famous” but running sound for body building competitions gets you in the company of a lot of shitty prima donnas who are oiled up, stink of menthol, and go into roid rage at the drop of a hat.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come they don't do a cooking show for poor or middle class people? Something that is under 10 bucks that will last a couple days and be great.
14·1 month agoBUT exploring how the addition of stuff like rice to regional dishes in order to increase yield… how techniques of necessity like that helped evolve traditional cuisine in the south, Cajun and Creole cooking… also how ingredients of necessity like potatoes are not just a random starch but a life blood and the source of a thousand dishes… stuff like that is worth a series.
I think there really could be a great cooking show that highlights stuff like that; especially as a vehicle to show how to turn traditional wisdom into practice.

61·1 month agoHow do you get hypothermia and/or any toxicity from a pool you dive into only once an hour?
I mean the high divers aren’t lounging in the water or diving constantly every 10 min.
Should the water be room temp or warmer? With no chlorine? Possibly, piped from the bathroom? Would more pay suddenly make the exact same pool comfy?
How would Brooke Shields solve the problem having seen this awful tragedy first hand?
Tell me Elon what did you build instead of Tom Mueller?
Space X is humping the dead corpse of TRW while Elon complains about people smarter than him actually achieving goals.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your thoughts and feelings towards nuclear power?
53·2 months agoIt takes billions and almost a decade to spin up a reactor. Current reactors are a generational risk. One bomb at Diablo Canyon and an area the size of New Jersey becomes uninhabitable for 1000 years.
Had Fukushima gone slightly differently you would have lost Tokyo and the 125 mile stretch of the island nation would be uninhabitable for a generation.
That’s not even considering the spent fuel concerns…
Meanwhile you could build plenty of solar and wind gen with none of the risk.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would a sudden, permanent global internet blackout cause immediate societal collapse?
5·2 months agoI doubt it. We all want to believe that a quick loss of service will cause societal collapse but the reality is people are much more resilient.
Think back to the nyc blackout in 2003, you’d think it would result in mad max style craziness.
But what actually happened was most folks chilling out together with no real crime wave and the only issue was bodegas overcharging fools for ice cubes.
I say this provided that the blackout was temporary.
If the shit was permanent then that’s a different issue. At a certain point insulin goes bad, antibiotics go bad, everything rots and you have a different scenario entirely.

Getting pink eye.
