The unacknowledged competition so many people express when walking with other people. I fucking hate that. If you want to walk with me walk with me and don’t be a dick when I’m a bit slower. You can control your speed, you just don’t want to, or don’t respect me enough to do so. Fine, go on ahead, and I’ll go home.

Your students can say it. Have them say it in chorus whenever it comes up. “Gulf of…” “Mexico!”
Between colleagues? Fuck that law.
In writing, I suppose you’re stuck with it.
I’m past 60 now, and still no HL3! Can they do something about that?!

I don’t want Newsom appointing judges. I don’t want him in office anywhere.

If term limits are good for the President, why not Congress. Or, should we eliminate term limits for the President?
I disagree. Newly elected folks who aren’t career politicians are far less corrupt than those who’ve been in office for decades and who have established relationships with the filthy rich.
Power doesn’t initially exclusively attract people who want to abuse it, the corruption comes over time. Power corrupts, but not immediately.

Age isn’t the problem, corruption is. Politicians who have been in office longer are more corrupt, age is just a by product.

Oh, look. DEI hires.
Finally.
In the movie “The Wizard of Oz”, which is set in Kansas, The Wicked Witch of the East, who is the sister of The Wicked Witch of the West, is crushed under Dorothy’s house at the beginning of the movie. In the image below you can see the ruby slippers on the feet of The Wicked Witch of the East. Those are the slippers Dorothy uses to return home after visiting Oz.

It looks like the rain won’t let up before sunset, so I won’t be going for my usual evening walk. I went for a longer walk this morning, in case this happened.

Upvote for “to try to”, which is correct, rather than “to try and”, which is incorrect, but all-too common.

They can part them out and make back a few bucks--batteries, motors, stainless steel, maybe the wheels--nothing like the ~$100K they’re in debt for, though. Maybe if they strip the body off, some of them can build something useful on the chassis? Or, are they complete garbage?
EDIT: Ope, nope, they aren’t built like that at all. I suppose most cars aren’t anymore, everything is “unibody”:

Regardless, once they follow that path, they’re not improving. I think that’s the point.

Fuck off, Schumer. You fucking DINOsaur.
I say it the way it’s spelled. Other, perhaps more common pronunciations came about out of laziness. People just slurring the syllables together and now they’ve all agreed that’s how it’s pronounced because that’s how “everyone pronounces it”.
If that’s true for this and so many other words, then why don’t we just change the spelling to match the pronunciation we’ve “all agreed on?”
Right now, a problem schools are having is they’re trying to teach kids how to read without teaching letter sounds. Why? I have no fucking idea, it’s stupid.
My kid read above his grade level throughout school and at a college level in high school, because WE taught him. If we had relied on the schools alone, he would have floundered.
A critical look at “SoR”, or the Science of Reading movement that has left so many kids unable to read at grade level, sometimes falling four or five grades behind:

True of literally everything in life. It’s just our turn to hold matter in this form and experience consciousness. Our planet is a virtually closed system wherein everything is recycled.
(Yes, I know we get water from comets, and perhaps even biological material from asteroids, etc., but in the relatively short term, all of that has been incorporated and we’re living in a virtually closed system.)

Until we’re consistently electing a super majority of DSA candidates, we’re too far right.
The so-called “blue wave” was little more than a lapping at the shore. It’s been branded as such by the right to make us think we won something, so we’ll relax. Hell, it was one election, it’s not even a trend yet.
We need to fight the perception that Rs support lower taxes and business development for jobs. That’s bullshit, but so many “moderate” Rs hang their hats on that. What the greedy fucks want is lower taxes, and they try to sell it with the promise of jobs. So, our neighbors, who look no farther than their paycheck stub and see the taxes push, scream, and cry to persuade people around them to vote for Rs.
That has never worked out in the long run, as we’re witnessing now. It’s very clear they don’t give a fuck about us as workers or people. They care only about themselves and their profits. They’re clamoring to replace us with machines and computers, and wetting themselves over the false promise of owning AI machines, rather than employing difficult to manage people.

Good to know for people who don’t want to have kids.
How long before the billionaires ban surgical methods of birth control, too?
Might seem strange to ask after Dems won a few seats, but remember, money is power and power corrupts, no matter which color banner they stand under.
Generally, the longer they’ve been in office, the more likely they’re corrupt. And, as a side effect, they’re older.
Age correlates with corruption, but does not cause it. Money is power and power corrupts.
Term limits would help mitigate corruption. It’s why we have term limits for the President, and we should have the same for Congress.
