I never used to like it. Then I got COVID. My taste and smell died and were resurrected one Easter morning, but all weird-like. Now I love black liquorice. Tastes like eating a tire but in a good way.

is your taste and smell different in any other way? or is it just black liquorice that transformed from disgusting to beloved?

has the flavour of liquorice changed for you? or is the flavour the same but you now enjoy it?

how many tires have you eaten and what does it mean that something tastes like a tire in a good way???

Right, like I can’t explain the flavours I am accustomed to. And I can’t even explain the new one (neither before nor after). But like… good hell/bad hell? I’m going with good hell.

Yeah there’s definitely an element to the flavor that seems like something artificial that you aren’t supposed to eat… like you plucked a piece of rubber off of something and put it in your mouth lmao

    I really like Darrell’s licorice

Kinda expensive though and really hard to not eat the whole bag

Polish person living in Denmark here. The Danish lore licorice. I can’t understand why, because for me it’s disgusting. Half of their candy is licorice based. You have to really watch out not to accidentally buy something licorice flavored. It happened to me a few times. My friend once actually asked if the hot dog sauce isn’t licorice flavoured, just in case.

Internet rule, even the most obvious spelling error because of autocorrect, will be pointed out. On the other hand, why did it correct love to lore? I’m pretty sure, the former is the more often used word.

      “hot dog sauce…”

Heinz ketchup once tried to rebrand their ketchup as “hot dog sauce” to trick the good people of Chicago into accidentally tainting their hotdogs with ketchup. We remain strong and stubborn as ever, but that was a close one. Sometimes I feel like the people of Chicago would be more open to adding licorice sauce to their hotdogs than ketchup.

When I was a kid, a sibling and some friends of mine would occasionally play “jelly bean Russian roulette”, wherein we would get a number of jelly beans equal to the number of us playing, with one of them a black licorice, have one non-playing kid scramble them and “randomly” give one to each player, and then eat them eyes closed without seeing what the flavor was. Whoever got the licorice was the loser.

God I wish, liquorice is fantastic!

Get yourself a mix bag of Dutch liquorice, with some of the sweet, salty, and bees wax coated stuff. Soooo good, and a proper chew feel too, none of the soft rubbish stuff <3

I love the stuff, but it’s an odd choice for a candy all about flavor variety.

anise / fennel have a lingering aftertaste. Maybe Glycyrrhiza glabra too? Idk.
