Mozilla is working on an AI kill switch for the Firefox open-source web browser to let users completely disable all AI features.

After the controversial news shared earlier this week by Mozilla’s new CEO that Firefox will evolve into “a modern AI browser,” the company now revealed it is working on an AI kill switch for the open-source web browser.

Mozilla said that all the AI features that are or will be included in Firefox will also be opt-in.

    Cant wait for the back peddling to begin.

    . We have changed our policy and some AI powered tools can no longer be disabled with the Kill Switch.

    . The Kill Switch may not work on browser forks due to several changes made, you must be using base firefox to have access to this feature.

    . We will no longer offer a kill switch in its current state, instead you will have limited access to disable some AI features one by one in the settings & config menus (good luck getting them all)

    . AI is actually great, so we have decided to make it impossible for users to disable it… Fuck you, we know better than our customers.

    there are some grey areas in what ‘opt-in’ means to different people

    Pathetic way to control the damage while saying “fuck you” to regular users.

    If they are going to make AI the beating heart of the browser, like ceo said, then this will be as helpful as the JavaScript option to turn that off
