It is a noble goal to transition vulnerable code into memory safe language code…However, using AI to reach this goal is beyond incompetent and will lead to constant issues. However, Microsoft is the embodiment of audacity and incompetence, so that doesn’t surprise me at all. Taking the piss by making so many engineers who would do a better job, jobless (though they will eventual be hired by sensible companies when they catch a bubble). Microsoft Execs are absolute wankers, the lot of them. They are speedrunning another Brain Drain event into existence.

The engineer that posted this has already edited his post to say it was taken out of context.

Not affecting legacy Windows stuff at all, just new projects is the way he meant it from what I read.

Rust written by humans is a good tool for surgery on complex, safety-critical code. It is a real advancement in the state of the art - that’s why the Linux kernel project is adopting it.

But it’s like a wrecking ball is a good tool as well, but still you won’t want to do surgery with a wrecking ball. (But I can’t tell whether vibe coding with GenAI is as useful as a wrecking ball. Perhaps if you want to wreck the technical bases of our civilization ?)

Had to actually read the article to figure out that this is them using AI to write Rust instead of just being another post bitching about rust
