I’d say more corporate woke than woke. A man in a dress is a cultural statement, sure, but it won’t cause a rift in the market the way Palestinian activists getting their message through might. The halftime show has always been an opportunity for a major musical act to send whatever message they can fit in to a huge portion of America.
But yes, the game itself is destroying the bodies and minds of players and hopeful players (of whom the most committed tend to be poor and racialized). It’s not nearly enough better than boxing. I don’t really care for any sports, but baseball and basketball seem to be the least horrible (basketball has the ncaa issues though, and really needs a minor league instead). Soccer/football is also good except for heading the ball too much can result in inventing Posadism.
