Gandalf could have carried the ring but refused because he knew what corruption would bring. Aragorn is the typical masculine hero stereotype in fighting a war and getting the girl in the end. But even he refused because it wasn’t right for him to carry and all of his efforts were to be a distraction at best.
It was only the continued effort of the smallest people in middle earth that won the day.
