Saw this earlier today, talked to the owner, apparently it can’t be on the street because it expired before they fixed the law. The new law merely requires yearly inspections after 13 years, but didn’t grandfather in all the old bikes.

It does explain why I’ve seen so many public motorcycle exhibits; if you can’t bear to export it, at least you can display them.

He could export it and sell it in the US, those bikes fetch $30,000-40,000. Even at the time when new, Honda lost money on these bikes.

That’s what I said. He paid about that to buy it and bring it here in 2008, there’s no way he’s going to export it.

He had a bunch of cool imported bikes all in great condition whose ages tell me its the same story, a GS1800, a harley, YZF-R1.

Maybe he’s hoping they will change the law.

Presumably same deal with this collection of 90s and 2000s era bikes I saw in this random mall in Urumqi.

From our conversation I understood it to mean because it expired before 2025 it cannot be renewed period, but if it had been registered in 2013, he could have.
