  • I think the issue is that the drive train below them is the same. Who is in charge does have a BIG impact on some very key points but the larger general shape of something cannot be changed drastically.

Alan watts once said that you would have to mad to want to be President because it is like nominating to be in charge of a runaway truck with no breaks. You can steer it in different directions but you also have somewhat limited agency. So long as the core funding structure below persists, you can only nudge things.

I am not 100% convinced that if Democrats won 2024 election that we wouldn’t be in Iran right now. That said, if we were in Iran, it probably be a lot more sedate and measured. Probably be Also that is a big IF. I mean Democrats were the ones that spent 2 1/2 years negotiating a peace deal with them only to have Trump rip it up in his first term. I’m not saying it would be the same, but there would be the same pressures from below.

So in that sense, it does matter who is in charge but we also need to tackle the base drive train.

  • It was Nate Hagens (The Great simplification podcast) who said this when he worked at Lehman Brothers about confidence. Don’t worry, he learned quickly that he was the bad guy and changed his ways completely.

Anyway, when all the new recruits came in they gave them a pop quiz. It starts off simply “What is a derivative?” “How to bonds work?”, and with everyone being young an confident they all answer enthusiastically. Eventually they drop in a question that is really difficult and oddball that nobody would know, naturally everyone starts trying to formulate and answer only to have the teacher stop them. Teacher just says, “Don’t try to fake it, that helps no one. What you say is. I don’t know, I will find out, and I will get back to you.”

You don’t have to have an answer to everything.

  • It was always heading this way, I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I knew it was a flop well before it even came out for one key reason. Remember when the iMac/iPod/iPhone came out, it seemed like everyone else started trying to desperately copy Apple on those. Other businesses saw these and immediately thought “Oh crap we need to catch up now!”. Before iPhone even released Nokia was demoing a phone (that never came out) in which they rushed multi-touch onto Symbian OS just to not look behind.

Cybertruck came out and nobody else even remotely hinted at copying it. Every car company was like ‘Yep, you guys can just go for it, we won’t stop you.’.

  • Absolutely! This is the one part where I diverge from most vegans. I am not conceptually against meat, but I am completely against it in the context of the modern hyper exploitative system. And I suspect the indigenous folks that harvest salmon would be to.

The reason they have had to much issues with that over the years is because some bastard came in and decided to try and scrape the rivers clear of salmon because they could get $2 a head or whatever.

Alas, in the modern system, as soon as you put a dollar price on something, it no longer remains that thing. If you are paid $10 per tree cut-down, you see a forest and nothing but money. When a salmon can get you a dollar, you just seen dollar bills floating in the river. Money is a useful tool to allow trade to happen smoothly but at this extreme end is is the lubricant of ‘The machine’ and it will consume everything it can.

  • On top of all the other explanations is that deeper realization that can bend your mind a little. Space isn’t hot or cold, it is a void outside of that definition. In the same way you cannot see out the back of your head and that you are not aware of there being a deficiency of sight in that direction. It’s a non-event.

Also when it comes to heat radiations, on the right wave length we are all glowing all the time. That’s now heat vision works. Very neat to think about.

  • I don’t know, he has engineered one of the most amazing financial grifts I have ever seen.

Fundamentally, he should have been broke several times over now but somehow he manage to form and merge a few hundred companies over the course of 20 years in just the right way that it makes him still walk free. It cannot last forever but it has lasted WAY longer than it should have.

  • Ok, these are the only two good points to Musk;s name.

Yes, he did do a decent job of kick starting EV’s again even if it was by crushing down the founders for narcissistic reasons.

Secondly, he did generally tend to have a decent eye for enabling some design details (pre-cyber truck era). He did at least push them to move car design a little further on the original few models, you know the ones that actually sell decent numbers.

Beyond that, there isn’t much good to his name.

  • There is a very clear line you can see in their cars between the stuff that had the founders Eberhard and Tarpenning working on it, and the stuff that Musk as had a hand in. The original Roadster, and the S/Y/3/X range are all based on the original design and engineering team. Then you see the Musk lineup, Cybertruck, Semi, Cybertaxi, “Flying”-Roaster.

The desperation is starting to become very apparent, just waiting for the final merge between Tesla and Space X and to have the entire company renamed X.
