So it’s probably taken a specific image as input so it’s the user doing it intentionally, which is really no different to using illustrator or something to trace.

(Also when AI generation first hit mainstream people on tumblr were doing this a lot to “show” that AI was stealing art directly)

And even then, other than the composition it’s still a fairly different image.

Being this close, it’s probably img2img, with the artist straight-up using the original as input.

In other words this is deliberate, lazy theft, with a shitty model at that. IE classic tech bro…

Yep, probably fed the original into Control Net and just added a prompt to make it slightly different

Ai is like vanilla ice arguing his bass line isn’t the same as under pressure by bowie/mercury.

The story behind that song is a miracle. Bowie and Queen just happened to be at the same studio in the swiss mountains, Bowie took the initiative and one session later they had one of the best songs ever written in the can, pulled whole cloth from the aether. There’s no way in hell our current garbage chatbots in cosplay can do that in any medium, but exactly as you say, there will be many new Vanilla Ice’s that think it’s good enough.

This is obviously straight up stealing but it’s not like many artists haven’t been caught tracing. Saying that imagegen AI in general just copies existing artwork like this is just misinfo.

Reality is bad enough, we don’t need to make things up (even if I don’t think it’s intentional here). Gobbling up artwork without the artists permission to then make money off it is more than enough.
