A hospital is using a breathing tube and other measures to keep a brain-dead Georgia woman's body functioning because she is pregnant.

There’s an absolute PILE of horrifying and simultaneously fascinating medical ethics in play here. I wonder how hard they’re going to lean into “shareholder value” as the North Star here.

There’s nothing ethical about forcing her to carry a very likely non-viable fetus to term. They just began the second trimester and doctors say there is fluid on the fetus’s brain. The family has no say in the outcome.

Newkirk told WXIA that doctors told the family that the fetus has fluid on the brain and that they’re concerned about his health. “She’s pregnant with my grandson. But he may be blind, may not be able to walk, may not survive once he’s born,” Newkirk said. She has not said whether the family wants Smith removed from life support.

And if the grandparents don’t keep them, for any reason it becomes a massive tax burden on us for at minimum 18 years, entire life if the brain fluid makes them bedridden

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-forced-keep-brain-dead-pregnant-woman-alive-rcna207002 at the end of this NBC article it states the family is responsible for life support even though they have no say in the matter. It’s practically lose-lose for them

Probably garnished wages? Idk; that’s insane, and moreover, it’s obviously insane, and I’m sure it would incite some people to explore extra-legal measures.

Seems like a quite modest proposal, I’ll be sure to write my M.D. senator right away requesting this level of pro-life commitment in my own state as well.

For those who only care about fetuses the logical conclusion is to lock up pregnant women and completely control every aspect of their lives. For safety of course.
