I think I’m at like +3
I overall like new technology, but just a bit fearful at malicious people misusing it. Its not technology I fear, its the people.
I’m a tech guy, I work with it all day everyday, I love it and what we can do with it. But I also absolutely hate what’s being done with it. I love the tech behind generative AI, LLMs, automation, computers in general, Linux, etc. But man, when I see the shit being pulled by tech companies and governments, it makes my blood boil, and I’m genuinely terrified for the future. We could do so much better…
So probably a strong -6
Tech as in FOSS Hardware/Software, +6. Everything else, -10.
Technology after everything phones home -10
Technology before that +8
+9 by the same logic. But I’m biased because I’m an electrical engineer 😆
Absolute proof of the horseshoe model, I am at ±10, I both love and hate technology with avid passion.
Given that there’s technology baseline for even responding to your question, I think your results are going to be skewed.
+2, I love what can be done with technology but hate what can be done with technology
+10.i like technology itself, although a lot of time it’s executed /implemented poorly.
you like technology but you dislike capitalism
Technophilic +8 but some technology progression is utter shit :) Like ever larger phone screens, social media, some uses of LLM, non-open source software, most uses of public cloud infrastructure, subscription-based software services instead of owning things.
I’m probably like a +7.
I’ve got raspberry pis, 3D printers, a flipper zero, and various other bits of tech, but I haven’t gone full Cyberpunk.
I’ve been running from my problems by immersing myself in tech, I’m not sure if that makes me like it more or less but I’ve gotten very very good at what I do.
Last night I set up an event ticketing service so friends can come to an event I’m hosting without me having to schedule them or manage capacity. Then I cried myself to sleep. -2
But I also get to set up stuff for my collectives to use, like nextcloud and wordpress and it’s awesome to be able to turn a grassroots bunch of ratbags into a semi-professional looking bunch of ratbags. +10
Probably on the upper end, like an 8 or 9. I currently own more computers than most people will probably ever own in their life.
Between +2 and +4 depending on the day.
I enjoy tech, and tinkering, and like the other user here very much enjoy FOSS stuff.
Anything non-self-hosted IoT, or non-local AI* models, or anything else privacy invading gets a big ol -10.
Being in IT though I do regularly keep a hammer nearby to remind my devices not to step out of line.
* Also AI being used to “replace” real human work is bogus. I only use self-hosted AI and only as a toy and anything that comes out of it is not my work nor does it get shared anywhere. Pay and hire real people for serious things.
I’m starting to think that technology-wise Ted Kaczynski had the right idea.
+7, IT professional that has a home lab where I cosplay as a system admin. I also agree people are the problem, not the tech or tools, and there are many times where I feel like a tech priest from 40k (they pray to the machines instead of knowing how they work) I do know some people that would classify as +9 or +10, they are wizards who spend their days pondering their orbs (screens).
