It’s a video game where there’s a mission in which you have to destroy a missile silo. But the silo tracks you and fires a missile right at your location every several seconds. It makes a loud boom sound in the distance every time it fires. And it stops firing once you get to a close enough distance.

I’m pretty sure it’s an open world game, perhaps a bit like Just Cause? This might be some Mandela effect shit because I’m not even 100% sure this game exists.

There’s part of an area in Half Life: Opposing Force that has something like this. You later end up using the cannon yourself to open up the path forward.

You could also be thinking about a couple of parts of the original Half-Life as there are a couple of times with mortar fire (including the ability to use them yourself at one point), and there’s definitely at least one rocket launch silo in the game.

Depending on how strong your recollection or how muddled your memories these could be a match.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but none of them seem to be what I’m looking for.

Some more details; I’m pretty sure I played it on either the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, or PS4. It was definitely an open world game of some sort, and I think was on an island.

It might not have even been a missile silo, it could have been artillery firing from long distance. You’d hear a thunderous sound when it fired, and it took several seconds to land, with a whistling sound.

There was a restricted island in ghost recon breakpoint where you got blown up if you tried to get onto it, but this isn’t what I’m thinking of. There was something similar on an island in Just Cause 2, and the buildings on top of the mountains in Just Cause 4 (but that was lightning).

Oh dang, this rings a bell!!!

Any idea of what year you first encountered this game? Also what console it might have been on?

My mind first jumped to Siphon Filter, but I didn’t find footage of a silo that launches missiles at you.

I’ve only finished one of them, but it does seem like it could be one of the missions from Just Cause 4. Unfortunately I have a horrible memory.

Just having fun. My comment only makes sense at face value if I’m the OP or an alt account.

They mean viewpoint. Was it a first person camera game, were you seeing your character top down, was it a side scrolling platformer, etc.

The question was: Is it a first-person shooter, or one where the environment is seen from the above, as if from a bird’s eye.

Someguy3 did not mean to suggest those might be names for the game :)

Just Cause 2 has a mission, where someone launches 3 rockets (or satellites?). You destroy 2 on foot, but the third one launches, then you have to steal a jet plane and destroy that rocket before it reaches the orbit. Pretty cool mission.

But it does not match the rest of your description.
