Japan is obsessed by medieval western nobility so they ended up opening nobility-themed cafés with maids and butlers (but mostly maids) which became insanely popular. So much so that many artistic medias including animes started integrating maids and butlers (but mostly maids) inside their stories.
Basically, it’s kinda like us with ninjas and samurais afaik.
