Plastic injection molding doesn’t require a lot of hands, but it does require a relatively skilled supervision of the process and the assembly line.
As a result, plastic toys aren’t a good candidate for child labor. It’s just not cost effective compared to automated systems.
Stuffed toys, though, may benefit from tiny fingers doing fine stitching, so maybe that would’ve been a better candidate for comics like this.
thanks Boss
China (and other Asian nations) but particularly China, which is a powerful and rich country allows this unfortunately. Hopefully an issue the government is trying to fix, but one of my main critiques.
The USA has political prisoners and uses child labour just like China. Please get off your high horse.
How many prisoners in the USA? How many laws against people who aren’t white? How many groups against people of colour are there in the USA?
The USA literally gave Hitler ideas about killing Jews and making laws against them. They also funded him and supported him through black market trade.
The USA didn’t want to go to war in WW2 because they mostly supported what Hitler was about. It took a massive attack by Japan to force their hand.
The USA is not a moral country; it is and always has been a terroristic state bent on global domination either through military might or economic force.
Once you learn the truth, its hard to keep it behind the curtain again.
Source for child labor?
My brother in Christ, how much blood is in your drugs? I’ve not heard something so stupid in my life.
I’m willing to bet that there exist many truths that you’ve not heard yet, and will also label stupid.
America is bad. China is better. You will be forced to deal with this truth soon.
Spoken like a true ape
Or spoken like a true dog zapper 🐶⚡️
God damn Lemmy is bleak
I mean, I get that sentiment, but at the same time, that’s just actually the world we live in. Maybe the comic isn’t 100% accurate, but it’s good to be reminded once in a while, I feel.
Hard agree. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrations, indulging and being merry on days like this. Remember the other, though, if you have the capacity.
Yeah, if anything, it should remind people that others aren’t as fortunate as us, and not only be thankful for our luck, but to try and make the world better day by day for everyone. That’s how I see it anyway.
Yeah except here we are reminded 99.9% of the time and it gets old
This comic’s art and presentation is up there with some xmen comics. That’s nice.
…just brainstorming.
are there any bloom-ish stuff here?
My dad used to complain about this stuff while he was handing me the gift on Xmas morning. I was like 8 and I remember getting pissed like “well why are you buying it for me then?!”
Man my friends have kept their kid believing in santa at the age of 11. Purely because it brings joy.
I don’t think you had a great dad :/
this is why I give my kids beatings for Christmas. so they appreciate the other 364 days of the year when I just scream at them.
Mom?
Do you open your new set of jumper cables first?
I make my kids do it.
the true gift is the look on their face every year.
This is about 14 deep.
idk dude, Im old but cruelty still hits pretty hard
It’s just some feel bad moral porn and feels profound for 5 milliseconds
Moral porn? I hope you made that phrase up, because it shouldn’t exist.
It’s what they use at the ethical goonsesh.

“Sanctimonious” is the word you were looking for.

I don’t see the issue with what he said? Considering you clearly derived the meaning from it without issue.
At what levels of irony poisoning are you operating to view any reminder of the injustice as “porn” lmao
“<subject> porn” has become shorthand for gratuitous objectification in order to cheaply moralise and has been for a while (eg “inspiration porn”).
They’re being a monumental arsehole about it, but they do have a point - this comic isn’t trying to change the system, or even point it out - it’s a cheap shot designed to make you feel satisfied in recogbising how screwed up things are.
A comic that would have been very different with the exact same images but a “remember that your child’s Christmas joy may come from exploited children elsewhere” and a suggestion to shop local, or even linking to ethical shopping guides and apps, international groups advocating worker and / or children’s rights would do a thousandfold more than the comic as it stands. Which like the subject matter it claims to decry is cheap, nasty and exploitative.
Basically: this comic as it stands is doing the exact same thing it’s “condemning”. Using exploited children as fodder to serve.
this comic isn’t trying to change the system, or even point it out - it’s a cheap shot designed to make you feel satisfied in recogbising how screwed up things are.
I’m not sure how you got that and how is this satisfying to anyone, its clearly pointing it out how the system is fucked up.
And a bunch of action links under the comic would be nice, though I’m sure after looking at it you remembered on your own you’ve yet to donate/phone a congressmen/send some anthrax this season. Takes all kinds 🌠
It’s so cute when people like you show their verbal clumsiness within one single sentence.
Go celebrate now, it’s Christmas :) I bet they’re waiting for you.
Don’t put people down to feel smugly superior on Christmas. If you must, simply stay offline for the day.
I put someone down 🥺? Because I did not.
we don’t celebrate catholic christmas here, and you keep saying it to ppl like its a burn or something?
It’s so cute when people like you show their verbal clumsiness within one single sentence.
might be the nicest thing I heard this week
You don’t? That’s fascinating 🥰
Reddit is leaking…
How do you think you got here:)?
What is this supposed to mean? It seems to imply this is dismissable
A reference to /r/Im14andthisisdeep
Dismissable? 😂
It’s peak r/im14andthisisdeep moral porn. Zero nuance, all Weltverbesserer vibes and “look how enlightened because capitalism bad”.
No argument, just visual shorthand and emotional blackmail.
Feels profound for abt five seconds.
I went to look at your posts to see all the great content that you’ve provided to the community.
It looks like your high horse is pretty short.
That’s a great way to spend your Christmas holiday 🥰 you seem to be doing well. How many friends visited you today in your boyhood room 😂?
Dang, who hurt you?
Just block him and move on. Don’t get bothered about these people.
Plenty of people. It comes with the territory when you have a life ;)
Now go celebrate, and merry Christmas buddy!
That’s a lot of words to say “I agree”
See, you’re getting it ❤️
Just .ml things.
There’s a grain of truth in here somewhere, but it’s really hard to find.
Of course their message is just “West bad, Christmas bad.”
sh.itjust.works user posts on .world
“Is this a .ml thing?”

sh.itsjust.nazis
And yet…

Pretty sure that reflects more on you than any comment you’re trying to make.
Good luck on rooting out the secret Reds lurking behind every corner, trying to corrupt an impurify your precious bodily fluids.
And yet what? Finish the sentence, if it’s so obvious that it is implied?
And yet… “.ml users are here agreeing with it”?
Well, sure, but apparently so are non-.ml-users.
So what’s your point?
Nevermind: I don’t care to talk to stupid people.
It’s the truth. You think rampant consumerism isn’t creating consequences? Do you think personal purchases shouldn’t be held to moral standards?
Oh, do you not buy anything made in China?
Stupid people LOVE strawmen.
I do my absolute best I can to source anything I buy from countries that I know uphold labor standards. Beyond that, I also attempt to buy sustainably and especially from worker coops and union made goods.
So no, I don’t buy nothing from china(and other countries without strong labor laws). But I do buy very, very little from there, and only when there are no other options. Considering the only material goods I buy are bikes, Clothes, and food, it’s not the hardest.
Will they ever look at why and how China itself would allow these conditions to arise as a complicated nuanced view of global trade?
Nah, West bad
Or realistic suggestions to fix actual problems?
No, they just want to throw blame onto parents who buy their kids gifts for Christmas. Because clearly that is the evil.
The actual evil in this image is wearing shoes in the house. Funny that that’s likely also part of the propaganda against the West.
(Started as tongue in cheek and ended less so.)
The funny thing is that they think this is some grade A anti-capitalist porn, when all it really does is show how the countries that allow sweatshops are morally bankrupt.
And where are those sweatshops usually located?
Those kids get to play with hundreds of that toy? How unfair

The hypocrisy fallacy, also known as the tu quoque fallacy, occurs when someone discredits an argument by pointing out the opponent’s inconsistent behavior instead of addressing the argument itself.
society
As if Apple was the only company using cheap labor
Right, that’s my point
Why don’t Chinese kids believe in Santa? Because they know they make the toys.
Always someone complaining
Wait til you hear about gas prices going down.
What do you mean?
For Kids. From Kids.
Reminds me of the Banksy Simpsons couch gag
The unicorn part always gets me
Damn how did i miss that?
Guess today I’m one of the lucky ten thousand
They made that joke way earlier, and the actual animators were pissed about it:

Someone should put on Riders of Justice with Mads Mikkelsen and understand the bloodshed caused by one Estonian girl wanting a blue bike for Christmas.
