I started saying this as soon as he got into office, and they got right to abusing people, and everybody laughed at me. All these months later, and it is the accepted timeline by everybody.
He has no intention of ever leaving office, and they will do literally ANYTHING to preserve their power. Get ready.
Naive pacifism is. I’m a pacifist too, but it doesn’t take much reading to understand the reasoning behind “If you want peace, prepare for war” and acknowledge that, regrettably, violence sometimes is the only option not amounting to reckless neglect.
Better to compromise and achieve something than to smugly die an idealist and achieve nothing.
I’m not worried about humans disappearing from the earth, I’m worried about my mixed race son being targeted by fucking gestapo. I’m worried about my queer friends being targeted by gestapo. I’m worried about having to subsistence hunt to feed my family after the fascists are done wrecking our economy because either the stores are empty or our money is worthless to buy it. Hell, I’m a little concerned with all the aggression this regime is showing towards the rest of the world. If EU grew a backbone they might just gang up and do to us what we’ve done to the middle east. You sound like you’re prepared to deep throat the boot to stay comfortable. You probably grew up privileged and think they’d never come for you. I think your type are in for some ugly realizations. You aren’t safe even if you support them now.
Ah, I did misunderstand you. I thought you meant compromise with the bastards.
Fuck, I don’t want to see firefights in the streets, but as ICE ratchets up the violence against regular folks I just can’t see us not having to fight them.
Ah, I did misunderstand you. I thought you meant compromise with the bastards.
Lemmy (and the internet in general) has a tendency for replies to be diametrically opposed, so I don’t blame you for mistaking my comment as contrarian. It’s an unfortunate extension of the hostile discussion culture.
If anything, I’d disagree on details, but not on the general sentiment: Being scared to make a move is human. Refusing to make a move because you value principle over intention is hypocrisy. Convincing others not to make a move is sabotage.
And saboteurs are at least as bad as open enemies, if not worse for their insidious pretense. In short: They’re bastards.
I don’t want to see firefights in the streets
I question the sanity of anyone who does. Fighting is a destructive activity. The best war is one that is never fought.
But as the saying goes: If you fight, you might lose…
but as ICE ratchets up the violence against regular folks I just can’t see us not having to fight them.
…but if you don’t fight (back), you’ve already lost. And this is a fight we really don’t want to lose.
They’ve already destroyed mail-in voting, so on election day they will put soldiers in front of polling places to physically prevent people from voting. It’ll be significantly easier with martial law in place.
That would likely mean civil war. For instance, I can’t see the Lighthorses (Tribal Police, technically somewhat federal in jurisdiction) where I am from allowing that, and I imagine there would be similar resistance elsewhere.
They are trying to do that, yes. We get our ballots about a month before the due date. As long as you don’t wait till the last minute it’s not an issue, and even if you do, then just take it to the post office and have them postmark it then and there.
I agree they are trying to fuck with mail in, but they really can’t do much, which is why Drumph keeps bitching about it.
They want us to riot in the big cities, so they can declare martial law and cancel the mid-term elections.

People should be rioting though… How else do we stop our own government from kidnapping and killing our neighbors?
The only other effective solution I can think of is citizen sabotage, but that’s like rioting in the shadows.
No, no, the pacifists want us to just let them continue battering and killing people. Pacifism is as bad a disease as hemophilia.
Surely if we listen to the pacifists and stop resisting, ICE will simply go away /s

Right, because compromise has worked so well this far.
How old do you think the human race is? WE have gone thru a lot and WE will make it thru this.

You got me wrong: Better to compromise on pacifism than steadfastly refuse to defend ourselves

Pragmatic and based. I appreciate your logic and your patience.
Failing that, they want ICE goons at every polling place in major cities to make sure people don’t show up.
Elections are controlled by the states. They can’t cancel them, they can only ask the states to do so.
The electorates still need to travel to Washington DC to certify the election.

They’d be spread far too thin for that.
They haven’t done anything to mail in voting. I get my ballot. The states control elections, not the federal government.
They fucked the way shit is postmarked, making it so they can throw away lots of votes
https://campaignlegal.org/update/heres-what-new-usps-rule-means-voting-mail
They are absolutely looking to disenfranchise voters

Then it isn’t accurate to say they didn’t do anything to mail in voting.
“looking to” is not the same as “have destroyed” just to be clear
Agreed. They haven’t destroyed it yet. But they’re slowly whittling it away.
