Lemmy (and the internet in general) has a tendency for replies to be diametrically opposed, so I don’t blame you for mistaking my comment as contrarian. It’s an unfortunate extension of the hostile discussion culture.
If anything, I’d disagree on details, but not on the general sentiment: Being scared to make a move is human. Refusing to make a move because you value principle over intention is hypocrisy. Convincing others not to make a move is sabotage.

Elections are controlled by the states. They can’t cancel them, they can only ask the states to do so.
The electorates still need to travel to Washington DC to certify the election.
They’ve already destroyed mail-in voting, so on election day they will put soldiers in front of polling places to physically prevent people from voting. It’ll be significantly easier with martial law in place.
That would likely mean civil war. For instance, I can’t see the Lighthorses (Tribal Police, technically somewhat federal in jurisdiction) where I am from allowing that, and I imagine there would be similar resistance elsewhere.

They are trying to do that, yes. We get our ballots about a month before the due date. As long as you don’t wait till the last minute it’s not an issue, and even if you do, then just take it to the post office and have them postmark it then and there.
