People are too selfish in this country to consider that public services like transit end up making everything more comfortable, cheaper and better for everyone.
Expecting everyone to use a car from point A to point B means everyone has to pay to insure and maintain their car, then sit in traffic 1-2+ hours a day for their commute to where the jobs are that pay more than minimum wage and cause gridlock for everybody.
