Sounds like something that could motivate me to wear a ring with a diamond. “oops. Seems diamonds really are a hard material…”

Next level : if you want it to fill your tank fast & ad free, you have to subscribe to a monthly card-club with Facial-Recognition, otherwise it keeps showing you ads & it fills your gas tank reeeeeally sloooOOOOoowly to make sure you watch at least 5 ads ^^

If you try to close the ad then the hose sucks the gasoline out of your tank but still charges you for the amount pumped. Also good luck getting the right fuel for your engine, the pump selection system has been replaced with a gacha game. Try again and maybe next time you’ll get Diesel-chan!

I can see this being popular at CostCo. You could order a pizza while you pump your gas, and have your order ready by the time you drop by their foodcourt.

I’m usually not in favor of this sort of thing. But I think there are some instances where that may be justified. This screen serves ZERO public benefit. It’s just there to annoy you. So IMHO doing something like 3d printing a cover that you leave on the screen is a public service.

It’s in a gas station, why would it?

Why shouldn’t it? Or failing that, why should it be there at all? Fuck capitalism, fuck the constant attempt to extract value from every single moment of our existence.

            Agreed.

Wait, really? I haven’t seen that yet. Idk what country you’re currently in, but in Canada, almost every level 3 charger I’ve ever used is like a dumb phone display

It’s not the reason why, but I keep a roll of duct tape in my vehicle that’d easily make this a non-issue. If it has speakers, that’s a different story.

Reminds me of the company that did smart coolers for gas station coolers. It cost thousands of dollars and required proprietary service for this display. Idk if anyone is bankrupt but the company that made them essentially stopped supporting them so has stations have worthless screens blocking the merchandise

I saw a bunch of those cooler displays just showing errors/blue screens.

I refuse to look at them anyway and just stand there holding the door open while I browse/decide what I want. They can pay to cool and then re-heat the room ontop of the power costs for those displays.

This would be acceptable and even cool if they would put it beside another pump with the same fuel but without the ads and with a different price. So you can verify that the ads are actually saving you money.

That’s their purpose. Do you pay for websites or apps with ads? Do you get ads on paid websites or apps? (Yes i know there are exceptions)

If the savings are not for me then neither is this gas station.

Ads can save you money in all sorts of places, it’s very common. Take Netflix, you can pay less with ads ,or pay to have ads removed.

This would be pay less for gas with ads, or pay more without.
