I’ve never had sardines but I’ve heard they are extremely healthy and low cost.
Spam: low cost, delicious, but not healthy. And downright disgusting to those who know what it actually is and/or have witnessed its entire processing from whole happy pig to canned gelatinized slurry.
It’s very cheap protein where I live. But it has way too much salt for me, and various other mysteries.
For cheap protein I buy sardines instead.
You want cheap protein? Get dried legumes. (and prepare yourself for the farts)
you worry about sodium so you go for the low salt option of SARDINES
I can’t stand sardines. Every time I’ve tried them it’s just the wrong kind of fishy flavor.
If I want cheap protein I usually go chicken or turkey.

Sardines do have the same high salt problem. Healthy in moderation but watch your blood pressure.
