Short explanation

So this is Queens, New York City

In this borough, there is a park called Forest Park next to a neighborhood called Richmond Hill

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_Park_(Queens)

Last year, angry drivers signed a petition urging the city to allow them to drive through Forest Park.

Eric Adams, the Mayor, accepted their request:

https://nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/12/30/danger-ahead-city-to-let-car-drivers-reoccupy-forest-park-next-week

That made some Richmond Hill residents angry.

So local families started demonstrating next to the park. They want the new mayor - Zohran Mamdani - to ban cars from Forest park.

Joann Ariola is a Republican member of New York City council

https://council.nyc.gov/district-32/

She personally wrote a letter to Mayor Eric Adams begging him to allow cars to go through Forest Park:

During the demonstration, she crossed the park in an SUV and showed up to mock demonstrators.

    Question:
Why didn’t that car get smashed to fucking pieces?

    Another question:
When will you guys get sick of these horrible people and go after them?

How does anyone rack up 38 tickets? I got a parking ticket on a visit to NYC, and when I came back a year later, my car got booted, and then towed. It was a major pain int the ass to go to the courthouse, only to be told I needed the registration, so I had to go to the tow yard, and get the registration from the glove compartment, then go back to the courthouse to pay all the fines and towing and storage costs, and then go back to the tow yard for my car. For ONE parking ticket.

She’s got 38 tickets, and is still driving her car? Politicians should NEVER get away with this shit.

Seriously, I have way more sympathy for people who get tickets in places like NYC. More crowded, more chaotic, more rules. It happens.

By ticket 38, though, I’m at least 20 tickets past the point where I’ve decided I’m not competent enough and started just taking a mix of cycling and public transit.

which has racked up 38 speeding and red light tickets since 2017

That’s 4.2 tickets every single year.

First of all, how is running a red light just a ticket?

Second of all, why has her licence not been revoked with that many tickets?

America is a weird fucking country.

Regarding strictly the last part of the video: to be fair, there wouldn’t be so many drivers on the first reopening I imagine, since people have known for 5 years that you can’t drive through it…

People like Joann are too comfortable being their worst selves, they don’t deserve to be in office or in any position of power.

They always forget that others deserve to have places without cars. Seriously why do they need to drive through a park. It’s a park.

Some people have this huge fascination to drive their cars in parks and on beaches, I have never understood it. Cars are nice but they don’t need to be everywhere. I’m guessing there is a correlation with MAGA.

I remember once in my home country in Europe I was with a group of friends in the woods with our bikes having fun going up and down the small hills. Not mountain bikes, just normal bicycles but the trails were solid enough. Suddenly about 30 Jeeps skow up and start going around the place, absolutely trampling the terrain and making it impossible to bike or even walk around. Must have been a meetup of diesel brains. We tried to argue with them that they destroyed the whole place, but they basically argued it was their right.

      Fuck. Cars.

If you take a look at the map, Freedom Drive is not even that useful. At best it is a minor shortcut if you’re coming from Myrtle Ave and need to go south, but don’t want to take Woodhaven Blvd. i guess?

I’d bet a dollar it saves one traffic light and I’d bet a second dollar she lives within a quarter mile of the south end of the road. Opened for the relief of the most minor of conveniences.

I’m actually a bit confused. That looks like the road doesn’t actually cross the park, but is adjacent to it?

This is the Edge of Forrest Park, it’s a park twice the size of Central Park. This road cuts through the path for kids to get to the soccer field from the playground
