Honestly, to an English speaking North American with typical deficient exposure to the complexities of a lot of other cultures and languages, a lot of the English-language translations for shows and movies from other parts of the world end up coming across that way. Mostly, I just assume it’s something lost in translation and totally not a big deal, of course.

RRR was the first Indian movie I watched and I loved it. I watched other Indian movies after that, but they pale in comparison.

Monkey Man, directed by Dev Patel, was solid. More of a John Wick movie than RRR’s Rambo: The Musical. But the acting, the cinematography, and the screenplay were all on par with a top tier American film.

That’s more tongue-in-cheek. They’ve got a scene at a party that involves the protagonists engaging in a dance-off with one of the villains, which is one of the best parts of the movie. But it’s maybe ten minutes in a three hour long epic. Not really a musical anymore than, say, Titanic.

For a little while now, yes.

IMDb, historically known as the Internet Movie Database,[2] is an online database of information related to films, … IMDb began as a fan-operated movie database on the Usenet group “rec.arts.movies” in 1990, and moved to the Web in 1993. Since 1998, it has been owned and operated by IMDb.com, Inc., ** a subsidiary of Amazon. **

There’s 30 years between them. When Die Hard came out it had a building explode and a man used a hose like a bungee cord to escape. And he lived. Yeah, it was the same level of over the top - we just got used to it.

From the Rules Section of the Academy Awards Wiki Page :

According to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31, in Los Angeles County, California, and play for seven consecutive days, to qualify, except for the Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature, and awards in short film categories. The film must be shown at least three times on each day of its qualifying run, with at least one of the daily showings starting between 6 pm and 10 pm local time.

    later

The Best International Feature Film award does not require a U.S. release. It requires the film to be submitted as its country’s official selection.

Actual rules are linked by the Wikipedia page a PDF.
