Is it specific to a field or region? I’m in grad school right now, and at every stage it’s always been APA (American Psychological Association) citation format.
AP is typically used for journalism. APA is mostly used for psych and a few other sciences. no offense to your grad program but im very surprised you haven’t come across all the widely used writing style/guidelines by now
