Is it the authentic Denny’s experience, though? It is that bad? I have no cultural context for Denny’s.

  Oh ok, so Denny’s is a chain restaurant that serves diner food. It’s not known for it’s quality, and is known for being disappointing at best. It’s primary customers are people who don’t have anywhere better to eat.
