I agree with deleting forced installations. If I was presented with the option and chose yes, is there something detrimental about installing or using Gemini? I haven’t used AI consciously yet but that is all I read about lately.
So what you’re saying is, clear out all of your documents and replace it with the most garbage fanfic gibberish you can find.
Yea is m offloading my Google photos and docs again soon.
Alternatively, first save your data, delete it in account and then delete the account.
Yes, but that also often require migrating to other services, and I’m already getting weird looks for having an e-mail that doesn’t end in
gmail
, and often people are asking me for a “gmail account” too. Also good luck without YouTube (all respects to those who can do without).
Hey everyone, I know it’s going to be a busy day for a lot of people, but Google enrolled everyone over 18 into their AI program automatically.
If you have a google account, first go to https://gemini.google.com/extensions and turn everything off.
Then you need to go to https://myactivity.google.com/product/gemini and turn off all Gemini activity tracking. You do have to do them in that order to make sure it works.
Honestly, I’m not sure how long this will last, but this should keep Gemini off your projects for a bit.
I saw this over on bluesky and figured it would be good to spread on here. It only takes a few minutes to do.
Edit: links now work again
Extensions link just send me straight to the regular Gemini page no matter what. No way to find extensions from there
Thanks for that! I had most disabled, but missed one switch, or they just added it and made it on by default. Pesky bitches.
It’s off for me by default, not sure why
Is your location in google somewhere in europe?
UK I think, although after checking from a pc, google flights, hotels, and maps were enabled instead of greyed out like on mobile
Might be a european thing, i need to check on my end
And the links no longer work.
Your second link will work if you remove the space before “gemini”. I just used it and it worked fine.
Thanks! Fixed
Is this a US thing? I tried to go to the /extensions subpage but I get routed to the main page every time.
Probably testing in us to roll out to everyone else later
This is why I love GDPR.
I’m covered by gdpr but it was active. Links maybe fixed?
It’s likely changed by now or they canceled the roll out. All this happened several months ago. Including push back of pissed people and that a lot of ai stuff hasn’t worked all that reliably.
In the US, I didn’t see an extensions page either.
possibly a staged rollout
The picture shows Jan 20th, so it may have all been changed since this was posted
Are you logged in to your Google account? It works for me when I’m logged in, but otherwise redirects.
Using a normal Google account it has a bunch of checkmarks on https://gemini.google.com/u/1/apps but this is not available on my Workspace account.
Yeah same here. My Google. Apps / g suite / workspace / whatever you call it doesn’t allow it to turn off.
I am, I even used Chrome to go to that page.
You should have been rerouted to a /apps subpage asking what apps you wanted to use Gemini in.
It shows extensions for me but it’s all off. I did not change anything.
There is exactly zero chance this shit will fly in the EU.
EU customers are opted out by default.
It has been flying for decades… I am tired of these cope shit posts lol
Unless you take care of your own situation, then someone else will and it won’t be daddy government. Get a fucking glue
A glue? To sniff it, like you obviously did?
Cut him some slack. He’s American and has been betrayed by the following for all his life:
- His parents.
- His neighbours.
- His educators.
- His government.
It’s very difficult to be brought up in the USA without being bitter. Show some empathy.
Then block him, because if you look in his posting history (and moderation history) it’s pretty obvious he won’t be adding anything meaningful to conversations. (Showing empathy is not the same, after all, as putting up with his bullshit.)
I already had everything turned off anyway…Turns out past me made sure that Gemini couldn’t invade my life!
Same! Already got fed up with google awhile back and turned everything off. Next goal is to completely de-google.
I want to, but there are critical accounts that won’t let me change the associated email (or an account that would require my former employer to change, ROFL). I’m happy you can de-Google.
Uuuugghhghh. Must degoogle… faster!
Thanks, fyi for me I had to go to: https://gemini.google.com/apps for the first link.
january 2025…!
Important safety tip.
Thanks, Ray.
I guess they learned nothing from Google Buzz.
Thanks. I just turned it all off.
What does that even mean? Did they integrate Gemini to all their core products?
That said, I use Gemini occasionally, and it seems useful to me, although I still take the information it generates with caution, and I prefer to read documentation for whatever I want to do, because I don’t want to blindly follow what LLM’s generate (that’s just asking for problems).
If you were ever stupid enough to use googol in the first place, then you get what you deserve.
