She seems insufferable, but was there from age eight. Im glad she finally got her citizenship.

Some context: This woman was trying to prohibit farmers from equipping their cows with bells, because she felt that they made too much noise. The population in this rural and traditional village did not like that, as they disliked people interfering with their traditions (especially since she was no swiss citizen). Some months later, she asked for naturalization, which was promptly denied by the popular vote in the village.

The bells were measured and found to Be loud enough to damage the cows hearing.

If I recall correctly the bells right at like 100db which is like a concert or a lawnmower.

I think it’s kinda cruel to the cows but I also get where it’s crazy to show up, tell everyone how to shit and then expect to be invited into the community for it.

I get so tired of the “yes, this appears to be a historical atrocity people have deliberately ignored, but mentioning it now is rude” framing.

Slapping “we ruined her ability to interface normally with the bureaucracy as a punishment” on top is some reactionary bullshit I’d like to think the anti-Trump crowd would be above.

But nope… fascism is just a reflex for people.

I could see an argument for the noise being detrimental to the cows and her trying to pick her battles in a Swiss cattle farming town. I guess she still didn’t hit the mark.

Who among us hasn’t spent our time inefficiently on something we care about? If you laser focus on only the most important thing, you’ll go (more) nuts.

I think some people feel guilty if their day isn’t packed to the brim with productivity, I feel so lucky that I don’t feel that way, on the other hand I’m kind of a bum. Live and let live.

I’ve read about this person before, and they sound genuinely insufferable for multiple reasons, the cowbell thing being just one of them.

Basically, they moved to another country, in the countryside, and immediately started telling everyone around them they were living their lives wrong and should change. Basically the opposite of what naturalisation means.

I say this every time I see someone complain about female castration, corporal punishment, or waterboarding.

If you don’t like how a community operates, you shouldn’t complain. You should leave. Or, better yet, don’t show up to begin with.

Get your fancy liberal ideas about social reform or rights for the disposed out of her. If we’re torturing cows in our town, with our own money, on our land, that’s our choice. Idk how you have the nerve to come in and try to make this place better.

Fuck you. I’ll torture my cows if I feel like it. As my father did, and his father before him. Cow torture is a tradition. Don’t be annoying.

Looks a lot like islamists going to Western countries and demand that certain books/movies/subjects are not taught to their daughters

Edit: also, like Westerners going to exotic countries, conquer and colonize them, then forcing local populations to adopt their god, their fashion and their art

Yeah I remember a podcast about her. The cowbell thing was probably the least annoying part. She ran an equally aggressive campaign to get the church bells silenced (lady really hates bells). She also had aggressive campaigns against hunting and pig racing. So basically she was against most of the major past times and cultural aspects of the town.

Ok, I actually kind of like her now. Those are annoying as hell if you live next to them.

But I’m sure as hell not gonna talk about it until after I have my citizenship.

I agree that bells are annoying. That’s why I don’t live in a place with bells. Moving to a place with some traditions and trying to change those traditions is just shitty behaviour.

Can confirm, she was featured in a program about Swiss naturalisation that I watched the other day. There were plenty of other candidates who were trying to integrate that were much less annoying than her, yet they still were having difficulty. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that they denied her.

Oh, so the same thing England’s been doing for hundreds of years. And, more recently, the U.S. Plus, of course, Christian missionaries.

Maybe she sees herself as some sort of Vegan messiah. The zealotry is strong in that group.
