I dunno, I can only think of sad and useless examples like Patty Hearst.

I guess Smedley Butler. Hard to find examples of prominent leaders though. Social dominators really prefer authoritarian followers over us obstreperous thinky-feely types.

There was a time, in December of 2016, where I really thought that trump might come out as a democrat after taking office. I think I’d still prefer Gore had been inaugurated, if we’re changing the presidencies of this century, but trump coming out swinging for progressive causes (or at least socially progressive causes, because he’s been too rich for any actually leftist fiscal policies) would have been nice

this mf quoted their own opinion article they wrote as though it was a source.

You wrote a “Made for Tumblr” revisionist deconstruction of a thousands of years old myth, published it on Medium, and then referenced as proof/source here…

Holyhell, that’s levels of up one’s own ass never seen before.

That’s to keep you from having to scroll past several pages of comment explaining the whole issue all over again in the thread. It’s more convenient for you to just click a link if you doubt the claim, and then you can see the argument I would have otherwise typed in the thread. It’s easier for Me as well.

When arguing with tankies on the fediverse, I often wish they would take the same approach, instead of either writing a 4 page comment, or citing the entire works of Marx. It allows the reader to choose which arguments to further engage with, and saves time for everyone. Here on MULTIVERSE, we require arguments not to be optimised to exhaust the reader, as we think that kind of behaviour constitutes a form of attentional violence.

blahblahblah, you’re committing acts of attentional violence on me. Can you remove yourself from this instance?

Causing straight up emotional and psychic damage to everyone around you through the sheer power of cringe… this is literally you… this is what everyone sees you as.

I have an actual degree in psychology that I am currently using exclusively to label Trump as having a personality disorder, thank you very much.

People don’t remember how he flat out campaigned on some policies that were to the left of Hilary. They don’t remember his charisma in the Republican debates, the way he expertly worked crowds back in 2015-16. They ask have forgotten about how he said he’ll “drain the swamp” and that he was “self funding his campaign” so he “wouldn’t be beholden to any other interests”

Turns out he was just a sad wannabe dictator who can’t even manage to control a Latin American nation with the full force of the US Military, let alone establish himself as emperor over the 'states

I was hoping the tariffs would be good, but I certainly expected it to be a disaster otherwise.

In retrospect, it was just really bad, and his tariffs were a ham-fisted turd. He saved the demolition of the country for his second term, after he let Stephen Miller run things and got rid of anyone who was telling him no.
