I send videos like this to my parents, and the first reply is “well how do you know they’re not criminals?”

Because these aren’t fucking cops Dad. If they were actual criminals, they’d be calling for backup when a crowd in Chicago tries to stop them from kidnapping someone. They would be bringing them in and charging them so we can determine if they are criminals or not. We have a fucking process for this already and it seems like either you forgot this, or you believe that the process shouldn’t apply to these people. Which would make you racist. And I keep reminding you about due process, and you keep telling me that you agree it’s important, so… Racism it is.

“HOW DARE YOU CALL ME RACIST!”

    Ok Dad.

Maybe don’t assume the person being brutalized by cops is a criminal because he’s brown, and I won’t think you’re racist.

I think the point of the amendment was that the populace could remain armed - so that when the people making “laws” overreach, the population has the means to deal with it. Dealing with it isn’t part of the amendment. Once you start the only way through is revolution, and then you won’t be held accountable.

Theres lots of ways to deal with it, most are legal means though which arent sexy.

I imagine that a lot of those Jan 6th morons thought that they were exercising their rights. After all, they were being told that the election was being stolen. Would everyone here agree that what they did was the right thing, given the information? Of course not, it looked insane and the escalation would have been even worse.

On a purely individual experience, if someone is kicking in your door, and you arent about to be straight up murdered. Just go with them, and sort it out later. Pulling a gun on an armed assault force is never going to end well for you. We all like to think we are John Wick, but we arent. Pulling a gun on a team of armed people will be your last mistake. It should only ever be a last resort.

America was founded on the principles that all people are created equal, and we have the God-given human rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Our nation seemed to abandon those principles almost from the start, but they are still worthy principles upon which to base a nation, and IF the Forces of Good manage to wrest power away from the MAGA Evil, we need to reconfigure our nation to truly honor the promise of those Founding Principles.

Stop with this messaging. Many Americans fought those bullshit anti native and anti black/brown laws and thinking and this is the death throws of an ignorant but very vocal minority. They would have disappeared under the rug if not for VERY wealthy and manipulative people making them feel like their terrible views were justified instead of socially bankrupt. All to enrich and empower those evil wealthy people. They don’t care about race, just distracting idiots from wealth inequality. America has done a lot of good in the world. We just got a wake up call that the fight against racism and hate and bigotry of our past will flare up if we are not diligent.

I got my future in laws to stop saying the N word which was rampant in their language and while they never said it around me ever again I also know that percolated with shame into other conversations. America is full of loving and welcoming people. We’ve just got gobs of money and constant messaging trying to convince us to go back to the 50s. We weren’t ALWAYS like this and we WILL defeat this and progress. The constant negativity is strangling. Please change your mindset. The average american is not the average Trump Nazi cultist…

The Founding Fathers set up a durable and highly respected system of governance, and are widely celebrated for that. They were also slave owners, and are widely condemned for that. People are complicated, and accepting that the same person leaves both positive and negative legacies is important to understanding them.

Denying and suppressing the bad parts of our history is unhelpful. Accepting the bad parts and trying to learn from them gives us the best shot at doing better in the future. We can both celebrate the good legacies of our country and at the same time acknowledge the bad ones.

…it is why I advocate for trialing ICE as a class and executing anyone who was paid for working as ICE, because too many innocents are being slaughtered without their killers being removed from the census.

I don’t want MAGAs as my neighbors in the America of the future, because they want to hurt people…for…existing? At this point, I simply don’t consider MAGATs to be fellow Americans.

      Edit

Um. I realize how I said þat sounded racist. What I meant - but phased exceedingly poorly - was þat even after all minorities have been abducted (ie when þey start abducting white people), people still won’t care. I meant þat MAGA probably can’t wait until white people start getting abducted, as long as þey’re Democrats.

Even when I know what I meant, re-reading it, it sounds bad. Sorry.

Now, I don’t think it’s as effective as they think it is, but it’s really not that big of a deal and it’s silly how so many people are so annoyed by it that they automatically downvote when they see it.

That makes a lot more sense, thanks for the clarity!
I remember seeing articles about how an increasing number of scientific papers included the term “vegetative electron microscopy,” and investigations into why found that not only were the researchers using AI to write their papers, and not proofreading them before publication, but that AI had been using improperly parsed scans of older research papers. That term is now believed to be permanently embedded in some models.

Raids are usually done in early morning when people are likely sleeping, and everyone gets in position quietly (people at all possible entrances/exits), then many of the raiders come in and try to secure all rooms before people realize what’s going on. They also come in overwhelming force, and most people would rather take their chances of surviving, rather than ensuring the death of themselves and increasing the likelihood of their loved ones being murdered as well.

I’ve lived in a place that was raided by police once, and I was awoken by a guy with an AR-15 standing over me yelling (doors were unlocked, so they all just came in quickly, and I guess pretty quietly; but I’m a very heavy sleeper, so IDK).

There’s more guns than people because some people have a LOT of guns. They’re not evenly distributed.

I don’t know why people think guns are a magic bullet (ha!) that will keep you safe from the gestapo. As soon as ICE thugs get shot, the real military will be sent in to crack down, and they have far more firepower than any civilian.

have far more firepower than any civilian.

I guess if they want to start using heavy ordinances, armed drones, etc.

In reality some of these militia groups have basically the same guns, same training and same equipment as the military. All it takes is someone with an FFL 9 or higher and they have access to all types of explosive weaponry.

The major advantages of the military are numbers, transportation logistics and communications. If you control communications you control the battlefield.

Unfortunately most of these groups are ICE as their day jobs… But it gets dangerous when it gets too close to their neighborhoods.

Tbh I am surprised how low it is in Texas but maybe that has changed since 2016 because they relaxed laws since then.

I am not, big cities and the land is really rural. Hard to balance out all the people in cities. Also remember that map is “ownership” per household. They could have the exact same percentage of household ownership as New Mexico, but each household might have 10x the number of guns.

I got CDSd today (sorry, no gun) and if my house’s cat population wasn’t at the fire code limit I’d have brought her home so she can die loved. Instead, I have her some loves and affection on the rip of her head, the only spot without fur so matted I was scared to touch her. That I couldn’t do anything real for her broke my tiny heart.

Precisely. Then a battle can happen and they can say they “uncovered an antifa terror cell, and now we have to have martial law because we told you.”

It’s terribly predictable what they’re attempting. What surprises me is that while people (in general) might be stupid, they also (generally) act reasonably.

So far, “don’t set the gunpowder surrounding us on fire, and work together to clean up this mess” seems to be reasonable.

I see what youre saying though, I’m just not as surprised yet, having been around guns and gun owners my whole life in kentucky.

Oregon has over 50% ownership, placing it in the highest tier of gun owning states per capita, according to data from 2022, I’ve seen various numbers though, increasing in later years so it may be higher now. Ancedotally though the majority of people I’ve known in Oregon had at least one firearm. Armed right wing ‘sovereign citizen’ groups have stood up to feds multiple times in the state, and there are several known anti-government militias based in Oregon.

I was thinking the same thing. The only issue is that there are several of them breaking in weapons drawn … that tips the balance. Eventually these untrained proud boy rejects are going to hit a parano8d gun nut and find out there are no repercussions when someone shoots a home invader.

That’s like saying there’s no repercussions to shooting a cop who busts down the wrong door.

It doesn’t matter whether or not it’s legal; they’ll find a way to make sure you have repercussions.

You’re giving him way too much credit.

Aside from the atrocities, Hitler has also done several good things for the country and the nation. Which of course, by no means excuse the atrocities in any capacity, but I think they’re worth mentioning for additional context.

In thay sense, Trump is way worse as he’s yet to do a single beneficial thing for anyone other than himself and his oligarchs.

Well, Hitler’s policies led to the Autobahn which was the genesis of modern highway systems, and depending on how far you want to stretch the definition of “good” he also gave the orders that ultimately resulted in the design and production of the Volkswagen Beetle. Allegedly, his comments even inspired its shape.

…Mind you, he funded his initial war manufacturing effort by literally scamming his own citizens out of their preorder payments for said cars, ultimately delivering zero of them to any of the people who paid for them (I wonder if this reminds me of anyone else we can think of) but the things ultimately did make it onto the market after the war.

He also managed to more or less stabilize the German economy in the chaotic years following the first world war, although once again he did it largely by putting everyone to work building weapons and equipment which he shortly used to murder millions of people. The standard of living for select Germans and those in specific occupations did briefly but noticeably increase under Hitler’s watch until, you know, the whole genocide and Allied armies showing up on their doorstep thing.

To be fair, Trump would be nearly as effective as he is if he weren’t surrounded by a swarm of people who also have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Let’s also not let the body politic who put him there off the hook either; redeeming qualities pretty rarefied among them too.

How about the redeeming qualities of his opponents? Are they both legion in number and high in quality? No?

In fact, a disturbingly large number of your country is irredeemable, or very nearly so. A basket of deplorables, if you will.

“Now, there’s one thing you might have noticed I don’t complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders." -George Carlin

The 12-gauge leaning on my desk says they’ll have a hard time getting in here. If they catch me in bed, they’ll answer to the AR-15.

But it’ll never happen because they’re only picking on people who can’t or won’t fight back.

Ok. So you’re able to maybe get one or two before the other 10 of them, with full auto capabilities, open fire in your house. If you have family there you’ve condemned them to death. If you don’t, you’re dead and they’ll paint you as the villain and use you as an excuse to erase the thin veneer of civility that’s been keeping them from declaring martial law.

Although once that happens the whole country will have to chose a side, and I’d like to believe the fascist don’t have the numbers to hold power for long. So thank you for your sacrifice

Honestly they can do anything like assault and we still cannot defend ourselves. Coz they are heavily armed and armored and will retaliate and call backup. Lose lose situation. If you shoot you are guaranteed dead, and probably anyone else who is in the home will be dead
